How will the Niche auction work?

mrgoodsett ·
Will it be like an Ebay auction? Will the minimum bid for all Niches be $75? How long after suggesting a Niche will that Niche be ready to bid on? Will there be one large pool of Niches to start or will Niches constantly be rolled out? What will be the time limits for the auctions, 1 day, 2 days, etc?

Important: Auction Payments On Hold For Now

Ted ·
Hi everyone- We are dealing with an issue that might impact when we record auction payments (and credit them to the winning bidders). Thus, until that issue is solved, we are going to suspend the ability to pay for niches for the time being. If you are a winning bidder, you'll be notified when we have resolved the problem and can accept your payment (and you will still have 24 hours from whenever we start accepting payments to send us your payment). We will provide more details later, but I...

Bidding system vulnerable to sniping

Malkazoid ·
Hello Narrative Team Ebay long ago implemented the ability for people to enter a maximum bid. This has the immense value of allowing people to not lose an auction due to someone bidding $1 higher in the last seconds of the auction. In such an event, if the currently winning bidder had entered a maximum bid higher than the bidding price, the only way to snipe the auction away from her would be to enter a last minute bid higher than her secret maximum. Is there a way for you to implement this...

Niche Minimum Bid

b1tbyb1t ·
Sorry if the answer to my question is published somewhere and that my tardy self just haven't come across it yet but how is the Minimum Bid price of a niche determined? I check prices now and then and I can't seem to see any correlation with niche importance (whether it's a main or a sub topic) or how long it's been available or the status of the person who suggested it or its ballot box score. Is there an algo that sets the price or is it determined by a team member?

A very small dilemma with Niche changes.

Emily Barnett ·
Hi @Brian Lenz @Michael Farris Recently I suggested the niche "Edible Marijuana Recipies."...yep I spelled that incorrectly...or perhaps it was a Freudian slip because a marijuana coconut cream pie would probably be pretty pleasing for those suffering chemo...but that is another story. I sent it up to tribunal, stating that i would fix the spelling and tighten up the description a bit, since one person took issue with it being "good for you" and that some recipes...

Feedback on niches from Google+ land

Malkazoid ·
Hi all, So it has been eye-opening already, this little foray into Google+ land. I've gleaned so far that to some folks, there's resistance to the notion of having to pay for niches, which is compounded by the seemingly high NRVE prices of niches, and confused further by the fact that those prices fluctuate alot from auction to auction. People are coming away underwhelmed from their visit to the alpha, and there are multiple layers to the problem. Paying for niches I too was initially turned...
Question

question about niche prices

Gosia Rokicka ·
Hello, I won 2 auctions yesterday and when I proceeded to payment I realized they were much more expensive than I expected! I don't think I understood the whole NRVE/fiat thing. Basically, I want to pay with PayPal as I don't want to go into crypto now. Previously I read that each niche starts at 75 USD and the NRVE price depends on the currency rate on that day. That makes sense. Because I always wanted to pay with USD, I didn't pay much attention to the NRVE price. Of course, the nature of...

Niches Looking for Owners

Christina Gleason ·
My finances are limited right now, so I can't even bid on the maximum of 5 niches I'm allowed to own. (I own one so far.) There are so many niches I would LOVE to contribute to...but they have no owners. Let's use this thread to list and link to niches in need of owners that WE would personally contribute to and/or actively read content in. That way, investment-minded owners have sort of a one-stop shop for niches that have potential from active narrators right from the very start. I'll put...

Credit Card Processing Back Online + Niche Payment Deadline to Remain Two Weeks

Melanie Mathos ·
Credit card processing is back online with even more options! And, based on the feedback we've received, we're going to maintain the two week deadline for Niche Auction payments. When you win a Niche Auction, you’ll have two payment options - “Pay With NRVE” (our cryptocurrency token) or “Pay With PayPal.” By using PayPal as our processor, we've extended the payment options by allowing users to pay with a credit or debit card, via their PayPal account, or via Venmo (US only) on mobile.

Well. I'm not allowed to participate for 12 hours because I couldn't afford to pay twice the fiat price for the niche auction I won.

Christina Gleason ·
I could have paid $86.25 for the niche that I won in an uncontested auction. But the price of NRVE skyrocketed before the auction even ended, and it never dropped below $100 fiat. So now I'm CONDUCT NEGATIVE. Just thought y'all should know what happens, since it didn't really affect any of us active members in the alpha period to any serious extent: Your Conduct Status is negative . The negative action that impacted your Conduct Status was: Failure To Pay For A Niche. What does this mean?

Lets allow split payments to buy niches

Drixx Madison ·
( As mentioned in my post earlier today ) I often fall 1-2k short of buying a new niche. If a niche auction costs 14k and I have 13k in rewards on the platform or in my Neon wallet, it would be super cool to be able to transfer it over and buy the last 1k with my debit card. It's hard for me to justify spending $75 out of the blue as a starving creative, but I can certainly swing $5.39+processing (which would be the actual amount for 1k Nrve today). The auction gives you 3 days to pay...

Intrinsic Volatility of Niche pricing

shadowrifty ·
I bid on a niche yesterday and was perusing around thinking if it would be a good idea to bid on one again today. I noticed that the price for an initial bid went up. I checked the NRVE rate and saw the price to USD had fallen almost 50%. Then I was reminded that the starting bid was set to be around 75$ USD. I find this platform fascinating from an economics perspective, and this got my mind wandering. There is an intrinsic volatility in Niche prices because of to factors. 1. due to the...

Niche Auction Notifications

Garden Gnome Publications ·
I lost out on possible niche ownership because I never received notification the auction had started. I was following the niche and got a notification the auction was ending in one hour. When I saw it, it was too late. Auction was over. So ... either your notifications system has a glitch and some notifications aren't being sent or you don't have it programmed to notify niche followers that an auction is starting.

Niches without owners

Debbie Meier ·
My apologies if this issue has already been raised or being worked on... But here is my input: As of now, there are nearly 2500 niches up for auction. And this amount will no doubt increase over time. I've noticed a number of niches I would have liked to use as tags that still haven't been purchased and so cannot be used as tags. So, on one hand, it would be nice to see these niches being purchased, but on the other hand, having too many available niches on Narrative might lead to reducing...

Hi @Malkazoid - thanks for digging in on this subject. Narrative isn't really a "blockchain project" anyway. We use blockchain only for the cryptocurrency- the currency of the network. The rest though is not blockchain and does not require proof of work or any other type of blockchain "proof". We're of course following many of the principles of blockchain regardless of the underlying technology. Specifically, the goal is to be as transparent as possible and to give all members autonomy-...

Regarding the cost of niches, and publications - that's only relevant to community and group owners on other platforms - but they are very important to us because they are influencers. When a community from those platforms chooses Narrative, they are going to bring with them hundreds, thousands, and sometimes hundreds of thousands of their members. So please do...

The hurdles I see, and perhaps this is another topic entirely, is not the $75 entry fee per niche, it's the unknown effort avenues and unknown ROIs that are, well, unexplained in layman terms. 1. The $75 entry fee per niche is fine so long as the niche owners are not tasked with ever-increasing responsibilities for little to no ROI or even any model of future ROI. Paying for niches using Crypto is also problematic (riddled with hassles). But because of the mysterious 'next phases' during the...

Spot on @Erik Blair . We're not any closer to answers to many of those questions, than when the first niches were bought right at the beginning of the Alpha. Some of them have outdated stats being reported (for instance our how-to-guide for buying crypto dates from July and mentions 1000 users in the Alpha - we're now close to 6000). But mostly, they should be refreshed to provide as much clarity on some of these questions, as possible. I...

But at this point, I have established my virtual foot in the door and await further info before I march forward into prosperity

Re: Feedback on niches from Google+ land

That's smart, and I think it is all we can expect our friends on Google+ to do. Join the Alpha, take a small stake with perhaps one niche, build their reputation a bit, and see how things pan out. I think the publishing aspect is going to be Narrative's own implementation, but I would be very surprised if the style deviates very much from Medium's. But that's just me hypothesizing.

Re: I Won The Rap Niche Auction

The cost of NRVE goes up and down, pretty much hourly, but all of the Niche auctions start at the equivalent of $75 US. we have a bunch of FAQ entries that should help you to make your purchase. I won a Niche and now how do I purchase? How do I buy NRVE? How do I know how much ETH to convert to NRVE for a Niche that I've won? Currently the option to purchase using a credit card is unavailable. We do not yet have an ETA on when that option will be restored.

Hi @decentraliser ! There may be an issue with neotracker if it gave you an error message. But as you found, the system will return funds that don’t correspond to a payment so you should be all set!

Hi @Emily Barnett ! That's an interesting idea, but we don't currently have any plans to grant the niche suggester the ability to modify a niche after it's been created. For now, it will be up to the niche owner to manage it as they see fit.

I've proposed this (as have others) in other places (especially in favor of the accidental spelling error use-case) that Niche Submissions could be "editable"... but doing so should restart the voting clock, and reset any existing votes. Voters would be notified that the Niche had been changed and given an opportunity to re-vote on the topic. This could prove annoying to voters. Hey, I already voted for that, didn't I? Taking that one step further, it could also be abused by someone who has...

This only works if the Niche is approved WITH spelling errors. If it gets rejected for spelling errors, then the potential owner never has the opportunity to set things straight. Take for example the common misspelling: B-r-i-a-n. I bet lots of people would love to hit a pause button, spell it correctly (B-r-y-a-n) and then resume life with a sunnier disposition than ever!

Or, I guess, if the Niche gets rejected for spelling errors... you could just resubmit with corrections and run the gamut again. Right? Problem with that: if I see you have a Niche with spelling errors, that isn't getting upvoted. I could submit that very same Niche, with correct spelling, and you're still on your 24 hour waiting period before submitting again. #gamingTheSystem
