Re: Unowned niches need to be active

Slaz ·
As I briefly said in the old forum topic, I stand behind the idea of unowned niches being active and I do still believe that it'll benefit Narrative financially in the long term. There are plenty of active niches already. But a few hundred is nothing for the vast variety of content that new users would like to tag. I believe this'll be an important and determining factor in Narratives first year.

Draft an introduction of yourself for the Narrative launch platform

Malkazoid ·
Hello! One of the most significant things we can do in preparation for launch is to each write a post introducing ourselves. Many of us did this here on this forum, but when the actual platform launches, those posts won't be visible there. Seeding the relevant community-oriented niches with Community-oriented content before launch is a key part of kickstarting the life of the Community on Narrative proper - and what better way to start than learning a bit about each other? There are at least...

I have nothing clever to add to what's been said here and in the old thread but just wanted to add my vote - yes, unowned niches need to be active for all the reasons mentioned above. If they are not, it's a major failing for the platform which will definitely drive traffic away. It actually drives me away a bit, since I can't post here many things I'd like to. Most people who use blogging platforms / forums / social media are writers / content creators, not entrepreneurs. Including myself.

Find some Etsy treasures for the Best of Etsy niche before launch!

7 days to launch... Feeling like you don't have enough content ready for the big day? Yeah, same here. Then I discovered creating content for this niche is really fun and easy. You can create 5 pieces of great content in about 30 minutes... Example 1 - Go to www.etsy.com and browse the dizzying array of treasures there. 2 - Pick five that really stand out and open them up into separate tabs. 3 - Open Narrative in a second browser window and create your drafts The format I've been following...

Poetry is one of the most underrated forms of expression in our times - I LOVE that you plan to sell your poetry in zine form... That takes a kind of courage that resonates with me. I'll look forward to buying one.

Awesome! I didn't know this niche even exists. I have something I LOVE from Etsy - sadly unavailable anymore but this artist has a whole array of beautiful and inspiring items and I'd love to advertise her. Also, I'm going to sell my poetry zines on Etsy, once I finally get to finish them, so... good that this niche exists

Thank you! Luckily it seems poetry is making a bit of a comeback... Also thanks to social media. I love the poetry community on Medium. I'm bidding now for the Haiku niche so hopefully, we can create a haiku corner here as well...

Thank you for posting an example format. Not knowing what to expect makes my spidey anxieties tingle, so I very much appreciate having a set format or visual guidelines to follow. I own the Makeup and Vanity Rooms Niche, I know there is relatable products on Etsy so it could be a double win.

What were you doing the day Narrative Public Beta launched?

Here's to hoping this will be memorable enough of a day that we'll all remember what we were doing, the day Narrative Public Beta went live! But if your memory might need a nudge a few years from now, tell on this thread so you can refer back!

This is a great idea. I always love those articles that capture the web as it was, say, 20 years ago. Things like Amazon and Google looks so quaint in hindsight. Even the first Microsoft site was simply terrible from a web design point of view (did they build in FrontPage?). So it's going to be enjoyable someday going to the Wayback Machine and looking at narrative.org as it is today. I expect to smile. But this is where we start. I think I'll remember this day easily enough... Not only is our public Beta going live, but for our film, this is the last day with our editor, on a project that represents an eleven year journey for me, and up to eight years for some folks on our team. If you'd tried to tell me eleven years ago that I would bring a project to fruition that would require such unwavering and long-lasting commitment, I would not have believed it. So there's a strange and fun confluence of the symbolism of this...

I have been writing posts, waiting for the Alpha to go dark. At that point, now that the ground has started to unthaw, I plan to go scatter some flower seeds in the garden to pass the time until beta goes live. Later today I am taking a beekeeping course (hence the flower seeds) because I found last year there just wasn't enough bees to pollinate my urban vegetable garden.

I was waiting for beta go live. And sent out a few prospecting emails this morning. Then I made a quick post on Steemit announcing the beta launch and for people to sign up now before it happens (I got a final referral!). And that led to some interaction with one of my fans who was trying to figure out how to follow my niche.

You might not know this, but it's Ted's birthday today, so my first activity of the day was baking brownies for later! It's a stormy/rainy day here in Charleston, but the sun just burst out a few minutes ago and I'm taking it as a good omen. We've been dotting the i's and crossing the t's on all of our social campaigns, outreach, and content ahead of the final launch. Pretty funny that G+ actually shut down for good this morning, and Bitcoin went nuts...the stars are aligning for us. We'll...

I only shared one post, as an initial experiment, and out of 20 likes, at least one person joined Narrative. Awesome @Malkazoid , it definitely is a strong selling feature to tout Narrative today we have a lot of selling points. One is the fact that there is one year of development process that we have made and then say we are starting with Day 1 Today. We have exchanges and it is a lot easier to acquire engagement and focus content compared to launching platforms like Instagram and Facebook. This is the time where quality reigns before monetization starts to become a power in the forum of...

We are only 24 hours into this platform. New content will grow and be posted to all of the Niches. There are people posting to Niches now that were not expected. You can't compare us to Medium on Day 1. Moderators have not be elected so I am not sure what the issue is there. We won't hold moderator elections until member reputation is earned. As you can see on the platform now, Member reputation is beginning to really notch up base d on their actions. You may have missed it, but right now as...

I posted an article on Medium recently and I already earned $19. I purchased my niches way back when... and been trying my best to get selected as a moderator for a niche, and also tried getting content creators with no luck. I'm profoundly unimpressed at this point. The concept of diminishing returns is solidly displayed here.

When Malkazoid asked for people to comment about initial impressions, feedback, I initially refrained because I didn't want to upset the sensitivities of some people. I suppose I was right and shouldn't have expressed myself. Molly said, "We won't hold moderator elections until member reputation is earned." which is not a date, or even an expected date in the future. It is the nomination page. You'll see where it says " Nominate yourself, and make your pitch." at the top. It is in preparation for when there will be elections. Makes sense to get people to nominate themselves and be listed as available to vote on BEFORE the election, does it not? It wouldn't make sense to open nominations after the elections start.

Hi Erik - I'm sorry this is a rough patch in the ride for you. I've had a couple along the way too. As I understand it, the Team is being prudent when it comes to reputation. The reputation system is very young still - which is not quite the same thing as concluding it has 'problems' beyond those one should expect from a young system designed to respond to a living, evolving system. It needs to be put through its paces, and for live experience with the algorithms to shed light on whether it...

People will now have the time to present much more detailed candidacies on the Narrative Elections and Leadership niche. I'm hoping this provides the basis for a more vibrant democratic process on Narrative, with candidates being challenged to really represent themselves, and voters being challenged to...

Re: The Cost of Publications - Honour the Narrators who funded Narrative

Vico Biscotti ·
The idea seems only fair and positive, in my opinion. Anyway, the cost of publications is quite high in all cases. The basic option suffers the competition of Medium, at least. I don't see many reasons to pay for a publication on Narrative when I can have - for free - a publication on a platform with a much larger community and no limits in terms of editors and writers. The business option, the only viable option for anyone who's serious about their project, has a stellar price. I don't...

As a qualifying 10-niche owner, I have to say that this is the only way I could own a publication. I cannot afford to throw more money at Narrative when I can't be sure the NRVE in my wallet will even cover the initial cost of my niche investments when I decide to cash some of it out. I would love to run a publication and have real editorial standards. I could get people to join to write for a publication while I can't get them to join to post in the current nichesphere. Hi @Antimetica ! We're all newborn babies when it comes to all of this: the features are not here yet, and we only know the broad lines of what they will be like. The Team plans to include monetisation paths for Publications, so once that is in place, your comments about Editors/Owners will probably be very wise, and in some ways, they already are. Because niche owners benefit when they publish great content in their publication, that drives people to their niches. So they can indirectly...

This sounds like a good proposal @Malkazoid I'm feeling a bit silly now, because in my latest article I wrote, I advised Editors (Owners, was my way of thinking in my mind at the time) should not write in their Publication very much. So I feel a bit foolish, and embarrassed, and I'm wondering at all now if Publications are even meant for us as...

The Cost of Publications - Honour the Narrators who funded Narrative

Malkazoid ·
( A more detailed description of this suggestion can be found on the platform here - the comments may hold important info there too ) Narrative Publications cost $125 USD per year for the basic option, allowing for only 5 writers. If you want to feature content from more than 5 writers, the cost jumps to 299 USD per year . This pricing is an issue. First observation: publications on Medium are free . Medium is a far more established platform already delivering much higher quality content!
