The Video Vault

Malkazoid ·
Hey - There is less than an hour left to vote on this niche. This niche seems to want to play the same role as the Video niche, which the community rejected. I have voted against this niche, providing the 'redundancy' reason (the system now asks for a reason), since it is so similar to the already rejected niche. My deeper reason is that, like the Video niche, this niche proposes that 'video' is a meaningful way to tag one's content. People only get to attach up to three tags to their...

Question about tagging to three topics

Emily Barnett ·
So many questions...so excited about creating on the platform...Also it is stimulating a plethora of new niche ideas, and i felt stagnant in this area only yesterday. @Ted and @Rosemary Ok, new question about publishing. What if your post is only specific to one niche. Such as the niche introduction... actually mentions the niche title, in the actual post title as an example. The content can fit into other categories, but pretty loosely. Is that ok?
Question

If I change or remove a niche tag, how does that affect niche owner rewards?

Christina Gleason ·
This will become more and more relevant as new niches are purchased and become active. Let's say that I publish a post on the first day of a rewards period. Exactly half way into the rewards period, I change all three niche tags to new, more appropriate niches that hadn't existed when I first made my post. How are niche owner rewards affected? I can see a few possibilities: The original three niches receive all the rewards for that period, but the next reward period gets assigned to the new...
Question

Publication Post

Garden Gnome Publications ·
I was writing a post to my publication and couldn't tag the Publishing niche. Is there any reason why I wouldn't be able to tag a particular niche? Is it because I own the niche? Or do you have a limit to the number of niches a publication can tag?

Are you sure? I have five posts pending where I only selected one niche, the niche that I own.

You should be able to select only one or two Niches (or none, you can just publish to your own journal). If you're getting an error, or not seeing how to do that, can you please take a screenshot or copy the error so we can troubleshoot?

So great to see our engines revving... I was in mid travel when drafting went live and couldn’t wait to get back so I could jump in. Just have to ‘clear my desk’ now!

Ya my bad. thanks for the clarification. In my excitement to make content, I didn't investigate as much as I should have.

I have one or two pending posts that I only tagged to one niche because that was the only active niche that seemed appropriate. Basically no big deal if you don't tag to three topics.

Why did you create a duplicate post? The Video Vault topic already exist. Follow the link: topic

Thanks Sergei - I didn't pause to check if this was already being discussed. My bad.

The niche has been approved. I'm going to post this here because the other topic contains in its title an appeal for folks to vote for the niche - that's not going to be the topic in this thread going forwards, both because the niche is already approved, and because the task now is to look at the implications of the niche. Could I trouble the @Narrative Network Team to share their impressions here? @Michael Farris , @Brian Lenz , @Ted or perhaps someone else if tagging and search is more...

Re: The Video Vault

Brian Lenz ·
Thanks for your thoughts, @Malkazoid ! When Narrative supports video, you will definitely be able to filter purely based on the content type. If you only want to look for videos, you'll be able to. Because of that, I would agree that a Video Vault niche is not likely to have a lot of utility and would thus have a very uphill battle to be successful. I would compare it to a generic Content or Article niche. Are people likely to post content to those niches? Probably not since they will really...

David Dreezer ·
Christina, it's your option #3. The three new niches take all the rewards for that period because they are only calculated on the last day of the reward period.

Thank you. That is indeed the simplest way to do things and makes sense to me!

@David Dreezer , I wonder, for the sake of argument, why not pay rewards earned to the first three niches up to the date of the change and then all rewards earned after the change to the new niches? This makes sense to me on a practical level because, let's say 80% of the engagement on the post took place before the change. Then 80% of the rewards should go to the first three niches.

While we wait for David to be able to reply, I'm going to hazard a guess that it's a technical issue. Writing the code to calculate rewards once on a specific day and time is far simpler than having scripts keep track of every change every page of content makes during a given month. The way rewards are currently calculated may not be the "fairest" to niche owners, but I have a feeling it would be a major undertaking for them to change it, so at least we know.

Garden Gnome Publications ·
@Christina Gleason , I'm not a coder, but I can't imagine it would be that much more difficult to write code that tracks a specific change at a specific time point and divvy up rewards based on a specified occurrence at that point in time. I know that coders keep repositories of code others have written, especially code that is likely to be useful for multiple applications. While blockchain technology is still fairly new, I don't think it's new enough that no one else has come up with this...

BloggerKrunal ·
@Garden Gnome Publications You raised a very valid point. The posts might have got more votes based on previously tagged niches. If we just count last day of the month for such Niche rewards then anyone can do such spamming like, I would tag popular Niches first for my post and on the last day of month, I switch it with my own relevant Niches just to get Niche rewards. Whoola, did I just shared a lucrative secret here? The other loop hole is, one Niche owner actively up votes such posts and...

Garden Gnome Publications ·
@BloggerKrunal , I wasn't thinking in that direction at all, but that's certainly a danger with the current set up. The rewards system should strive to be fairly implemented to all parties. I think it's safe to say that any content published is going to get the bulk of its interaction within the first few days of publishing. That tilts rewards toward tagged niches, but paying based on last day of the month for content published on the first day of the month means that niche owners who were...

Publication posts are not treated any differently in terms of linking to niches. Every post can have up to three niches. It also does not matter who owns a niche. Perhaps you already had three niches applied to the post?
