Google+ is going away soon.

I was just adding my social media accounts and thought I should mention that Google plans to end its Google+ platform. So basically, it's not really worth connecting the account.

Are You fascinated by all this? I sure am.

Emily Barnett ·
Good Morning Narrative community, I just finished telling my husband how fascinating it has been to watch the birth of a new kind of social media platform. From the suggestions, to the voting to the intelligent and very polite debates on the community platform. So my questions are to you: Are you fascinated, too? What is keeping you most attentive? What are you surprised by as we are now moving into the third stage of niche selection later this afternoon?

In some ways it hugest social study, ever. It's been a fun to see how people discuss all of the principles behind Narrative, and then each little detail - in great detail. It's been a blast to see how people attack their niche decisions. Before the Alpha I was wondering will they go as huge and broad as possible, or do they narrow it down as tightly as they can? Will a lot of people jump in as soon as possible and try to nail their niche? Or wait on it and wait till the founders run out of...

Inconsistent Social Sharing Support

Willem Van Zyl ·
At the moment, content shared to Flipboard, Facebook, and other networks sometimes use the default "Narrative: The World's Online Journal" page title instead of the title of the actual post. This seems to be intermittent, but it would be great to have better support for sharing (Flipboard, for example, cannot import the featured image for posts at all).

I agree but Google integration is still a good idea even without Google+. To be honest, I'm not sure why it used Google+ and not a "Log in with Google" feature in the first place.

Hi David Sorry, I just noticed that some posts do share, but others still give me a "This could not be flipped" error. Here's an example of a post that doesn't flip: https://www.narrative.org/post...blue-flowers-part-ii Here is one that did work: https://www.narrative.org/post...-flicking-its-tongue I'm trying to flip these by opening them on my phone, tapping on the Share button in my browser, selecting Flipboard, and then selecting a magazine.

Ok. I don't really know how Flipboard actually works to be quite honest. Had never used it before. I did this one https://flipboard.com/@daviddr...ve-network-r1aheraly The post form AussieNinja was the one I put in after we did the fix. It did actually tell me that it couldn't be flopped. and I just hit the submit button again and it worked. I didn't know if that's us or Flipboard. I had never used it before. If you have one that doesn't work can you just resubmit and see if it does? And...

Your magazine is set to Private so I can't view it. However, I noticed something interesting on mine... Several of the links that said they couldn't be flipped last night, did in fact save too flipboard - they just needed some time to appear: http://flip.it/IbT9Xm I'll keep testing and report back.

31 Social Media Projects Utilizing a Blockchain

Garden Gnome Publications ·
I hope this isn't inappropriate to post, but if it is, @Narrative staff can feel free to delete it. I wrote a post about social media projects utilizing a blockchain and included Narrative on the list. I tried to find as many as I could, and it took a long time to research it. But you can read it on Medium . It's also on Steemit and my business blog. It will soon be on Trybe, and, of course, I'll post it to my personal journal here on Narrative so it can go live during the...

@Garden Gnome Publications - thanks for sharing some very interesting reading. Since you posted this, I hope you're open to questions/discussion. I read your article on Medium, as well as a previous article you referred to, "The Evolution of Social Media." Frankly, I don't see the connection between blockchain technology and social networking. In "The Evolution..." you state that "What makes them special with regard to social media, in my opinion, is the potential to reduce invasive...

Robert, these are all great questions. For efficiency, I'm going to copy/paste your questions and format them with Blockquotes followed by my answers. Of course! True. No special technology needed to perform any of those functions. The focus of that article was to give some historical highlights on the development of social media that have led up to the current spate of blockchain-based media sites like Steemit and Narrative. I left a lot out that I could have included. It is by no means an...

Social Media support for Niches

WesODonnell ·
Hi all! Love the idea of this platform. Super excited. For Niche Owners: I'm curious what other niche owners' plans are for driving traffic to our high-quality content in our niches? Historically, for traditional sites, I have built up a large social media following, kept engagement high, and when the time came to drop an article link, usually had great CTR. I can easily imagine a world where every niche on Narrative has its own Facebook business page (or group), or Instagram presence.

Messaging

Malkazoid ·
Messaging is a very important aspect of social networks. It is an aspect of Narrative that has been left mostly undiscussed. When in the timeline is the messaging functionality going to be introduced? Beta launch? If there is a labor-effective way of launching some form of messaging earlier, I think we would find it would help enthusiasm for Narrative grow, and help the community grow. The alpha is not going to feel like a 'place' until the community can connect with each other properly...

It's not difficult - Facebook and other social media platforms have rules and you can be taken down by someone with some malicious intent. Also, I went about contacting and cultivating relationships with content creators who have huge followings on Facebook/Instagram/Twitter and they work their behinds off and they are all jumping at the thought of actually getting something for their hard work besides the plug here and there. As to traffic, it really isn't all that difficult to poach it...

I personally almost don't use facebook anymore. I think it embodies the very opposite of what I am striving for, as a content creator. However, as a niche owner, I might consider setting up "lighthouses" there for the niches I own. By this, I mean minimalistic pages with niche description and redirect links, just to stir some traffic away from there. I consider Twitter far more powerful and useful, with its open-ended nature and mass appeal. As a musician and music producer, I already have a...

@Emily Barnett Great question. I'm kind of sitting back watching it all and I'm very fascinated by it. The whole Niche thing keeps me the most surprised, I had no idea Niches would cause so much frustration for so many. If you read the white paper Narrative is so much more than just the Niches. Maybe the team should LEAK some other aspects of the platform. MR.GS

It shouldn't be such a surprise. Niches are what we're focusing on now. Its the whole point of Chaucer, and the only aspect of Narrative that is in existence in any shape or form. It is also the aspect many people are most interested in, if they are the connector/entrepreneur type of contributor. I'm not surprised some people aren't interested in niches... We've all got different plans for what we would like to bring to the network (thankfully).

The downvoters have got me stumped. There are three users (2 Founders and 1 Patron ) that consistently reject completely reasonable Niches . I appreciate @Emily Barnett taking the time to explain her downvotes. I have been doing the same. If my understanding is correct, the Niches that are horribly named, will have a chance to be 'edited' for clarity after the auction is over. I had typed up a new Niche suggestion, calling it " Niche Voter Eduction for Founders " and then described the...

I hope there is some sort of posting version in the alpha version that will allow us to begin writing some content for our niches. It would be great to harness this enthusiasm while having some content in place when the beta version opens in the 4th quarter. I am sure the core team has thought of this already.

Hello - great to get into this in earnest. I completely understand, and in part share, @Robert Nicholson 's concern about blockchain and crypto. In order for them not to be a liability, Narrative should not flaunt them as a central asset to the site, at least not on the front page (they are doing a good job of avoiding this so far). As a sales pitch, I agree mentions of crypto repulse as much as, or more, than they attract. With a platform like Narrative that has broad appeal, there is no...

I agree. I am looking forward to you becoming a moderator of the niche, to help me promote the usage of the phrase. I think it really describes us all, and others as well. I cannot take claim of it. @Michael Farris is the one I first was introduced to the term by, I just had the good sense to recognize that is what we all are in this community, as well as other communities and jumped on the niche.

This is just a thought....since this community site already has a field for a telegram name, why not simply add a field in the profile UI on the alpha / beta site for this as well. Then people can reach out directly if they really wanted to until Narrative builds it's own messaging infrastructure in the future. This seems like a pretty simple stop gap measure to me.
