Niche Slot Maximum To Increase

Ted ·
Hey everyone- When we deploy our next major update (focused on KYC/Certification), we will also be increasing the maximum number of niche slots (niches you can own) per member from 5 to 10. Look for that sometime this month.

The funny renaming of the Humor niche

Vico Biscotti ·
The Tribunal just approved the renaming of a niche from "Humor" to "funny" . Now, I'm confused more than ever. I have repeatedly been said even in the comments of the Tribunal - when the description changed the scope of the niche - that only the name carries the scope of the niche (and that alone is a source of endless discussions). Now, a change in the scope of the name - with no change of the description - has been unanimously approved. A quick surfing on the Web, for example, can let us...
Question

How do I find list of purchased niches?

Bashar Abdullah ·
Sorry this might be dumb question, but I couldn't figure where to see the list of already purchased niches, so I can browse and see what might be of interest.
Question

Can I change name of my niche to one that was rejected before?

Bashar Abdullah ·
Basically I have the niche Video Game Development, which used to be called GameDev (similar to Reddit). But that's bad for SEO, so I wanted to have better name. Someone had mistakenly I believe suggested Game Development and it was naturally rejected. Now question is, can I rename Video Game Development to Game Development? It's the uniquely approved niche.

Hi Molly! I just discovered that my niche https://alpha.narrative.org/n/personal-growth is not unique! I just updated my niche and now I realized, that it is a niche very similar whit my niche: https://alpha.narrative.org/n/personal-development . How can we solve this problem?

Re: Niche Deep Dive: Calling all Sports Fans!

MOLLY O ·
@Teddy . I see the issue. Why don't you appeal your niche with the comment above to the Tribunal. The Niche that is approved/purchased first always gets the nod. If yours came later, the niche will be rejected and you will get your payment refunded later.

Well I paid for the niche, I start working on details, but I am afraid, that the other niche was purchased earlier (?!) not sure. But I don´t receive any pieces of information in the past about this scond niche. Just I discover by myself.

Re: Niche Deep Dive: Calling all Sports Fans!

MOLLY O ·
Unfortunately, this has happened a handful of times - but not many so far. If it is in fact a dup (Tribunal will review), then you will get a refund. The tribunal will review the two niches in detail side by side. Since we are in alpha - we are still learning a bit here. It will be very easy to see these when the Niche Map is available.

Thanks. Seen that before. But I mean, Narrative should have proper list of all niches. 1- It helps SEO 2- I want one with pagination, and where I can see Niche name, live stats (e.g. posts/members...), and description to see which is interesting. Odd that we still don't have that.

Game Development is still in the system https://www.narrative.org/hq/a...al/31435596528935082 But rejected Niches names are supposed to be able to be re-used after 30 days. https://www.narrative.org/post...ll-features-and-more If I understand that properly the name is available to be used. I can't tell you whether or not the Tribunal would pass it, but I believe that the name should be available. Try it?

Re: How will the Niche auction work?

Malkazoid ·
There is another advantage to my proposal. When folks put forth privately their 5 top niches - it allows them to focus more genuinely on what is suitable for them. They've been through a thought process and selected 5 niches after contemplating what is the most compatible with them, as well as what might bring in revenue. With the current system of everyone bidding on everyone else's proposed niches, you will have a degree of distraction from that initial inner direction. You'll get people...

@Malkazoid You make a lot of great points. I was afraid that I was among few who were hesitant about putting forward the best or most creative niche ideas. As an investor but not having the finances to become a founder, I believed the best alternative to contributing to the Narrative success was to become an owner of a really great niche and thus help to build the platform (as small as my contribution may be). Right now I am conflicted, do I just sit back and wait for an ROI or do I plunge...

Well I know what I want - I want you and everyone else to be able to move forwards feeling they have a real shot at staking a claim that they will be able to work at with passion. I don't want anyone to feel conflicted or discouraged because of an early procedure that feels like it undermines the reasons we were passionate about this journey in the first place. I really hope you move forwards as an active participant. The richest among us are not necessarily those who have the most to offer...

The Abandoned Niche Scenario

Ted ·
Hi Narrators- I'm looking for community feedback on how we should handle this scenario... Assume a niche comes up for renewal and the current owner decides not to renew. That will automatically put the niche back up on the auction block to find a new owner. What should happen if the niche does not find a buyer, however? The niche may or may not have much content associated with it. The niche also may or may not have moderators managing it. (Niche owners are REQUIRED to have moderators in...

Top of the News niche

Malkazoid ·
Hello, I don't mean to pick on this niche - I think there is a viable niche there. The problem is with the current description: Share opinions and views on the top stories in the news and current affairs. Are we to understand that the niche mods will take it upon themselves to curate a Top 10, Top 20, or Top 50 of what they consider to be the biggest stories? If so, then I would have voted Yes. But currently, the description leaves it open to interpretation and does not specify that there...

About Content and Niche Ratings

Ted ·
Recently, we've had a couple of niches that are obviously targeting "mature audiences" and the question was rightfully asked: "Are those appropriate?" We're still developing the Narrative Constitution and its overall acceptable use guidelines, but there are some key concepts we wanted to clarify. 1. Content will be rated in terms of age-appropriateness. We have not finalized the rating definitions, but the best analogy is the movie rating system. There will likely be three ratings levels -...

Improving the way misspelled niches are handled

Ted ·
Currently, only a niche owner can change a niche's name or description after it is initially created by the person that originally suggested it. Because of that, niches with misspellings are (rightfully) being rejected. And when that happens, the recourse is to have someone suggest the niche again, hopefully without misspellings. :) We've had some community members raise this as an issue ( here and here ): After considering the feedback and suggestions, we've come up with a way to fix these...

JC ·
I'm offering a run niche, ( Sports ) which has an offer from the owner of the narrative, the noo appears or online in your profile, and I hardly make my offer, the system automatically makes an offer for it, for that remove it from the auction and assign it a time. So we do not waste time or make us look like fools That is to be fair and transparent. to have advantage
Question

What can we do with inactive owners?

Vico Biscotti ·
A few days ago I published an article on a niche where the last time the owner logged in was 5 months ago. Inactive owners are likely to do nothing of what an owner is expected to be willing to do. And the same is true for members active on Narrative but doing nothing as owners. Since niches can't have duplicates, if the niche is an important niche for you, you're stuck with a forgotten niche. Inactive owners are not infrequent. What can we do to get unstuck? I guess that an inactive owner...

Re: More questions about our beloved topic: Niches

Malkazoid ·
Questions about moderators... I read somewhere there will be a pool of moderators maintained by the platform. Is this pool composed of moderators suggested by owners, but also people who have stepped forwards with the desire to moderate? How will the voting on moderators take place? Will there be a niche-centric list of moderators who have been proposed by owners for that niche, and anyone from the community can cast a vote? Can moderators propose themselves for a niche they are interested...

Re: Confusion Over Niche Voting

Bryan ·
I think that is the problem. Just because someone doesn't know what Darning Lore is, doesn't mean the one who submitted it isn't deeply connected with content creators from the sock-darners subculture and the seedy back-alleys of underground knitters & stitchers. The Niche proposer is the one who sees its potential. The community is here to vet redundancy and violation of terms. Language is important—similar to the Niche "owner" fiasco... "voting" is presenting its own set of...

Re: The Abandoned Niche Scenario

Malkazoid ·
So interesting to be delving into finer real case scenarios. To me, the most undesirable situation is to completely remove the niche and disassociate all content, especially if the niche has some activity: even minimal. I think at that point, the damage done might quickly rival or outweigh a lack of moderation for what might end up to be a relatively short period. Would it not be better to lock the niche so it cannot receive any new content, until it can be moderated again, but allow people...

Re: The Abandoned Niche Scenario

Malkazoid ·
Another thought would be to maintain a list of 'moderators on call'? On call work generally attracts higher pay, and this scenario would be no different. People who would sign up to be on this list would be people who need a little more incentive in order to be interested in moderating, or who are interested in doing so for shorter terms? A sort of moderation gig economy? When a niche finds itself in need of a moderator because it has become orphaned, the Tribunal or an algorithm could...

Re: Niche Suggestion Limitation Process

Banter ·
I really like the incentives at play here. This 'skin in the game' approach makes a lot of sense to me. In my opinion, and this may no be very popular, if you are going to suggest a Niche, but not bid for it (even if you weren't maxed out on Niches and could), then it shouldn't have been suggested in the first place. I also see the view that maybe you see a gap in the 'Niche Web' ....and have no desire to be an owner / promoter..but would just like to post content there...I guess that could...

Re: Niche Suggestion Limitation Process

Maelstrohm Black ·
I myself am pretty attracted to the "skin in the game" model, as long as the "once a day" free suggestion option remains. However, there could be a selection of "investment premiums" available, as an added incentive. For instance, there would be an "entry" level premium at 2$ worth of $NRVE for 3% return, an "intermediary" 5$ worth level for 10% and a "top tier" 10$ worth level for 25%. I also share the idea that the maximum niche per owner cap should be raised from 5 to 10, this would...

Re: The Abandoned Niche Scenario

Emily Barnett ·
I feel like I have said much on this topic in other threads, so I will be concise with my words. I think that a niche should be allowed as long as it has a moderator. Even without an owner. I don't see a downside to it. So what if it doesn't get promoted. As long as the moderator is keeping it on task to the topic. If the niche is getting rewards, that are just getting dumped into the pool, someone will buy it. Letting people post content on the topics they suggested far out weighs in...
