Re: The Updated Narrative Alpha is Here!

Malkazoid ·
Congratulations on the fine work - design and execution. So much of the usability is improved now: it was a pleasure to suggest a new niche and vote! And I chuckled at this phrase on the profile page: "Existentially this is who you are. Whoa." I was lucky and had no log in issues. Everything has been fully functional so far: I'll be sure to let you know if any weirdness pops up. I think it is official now... For the past couple of months it was tangible that you have assembled a great team.

Thanks - will share with our design team! Here is a breakdown of what's next from Brian's blogpost : Here’s what you can expect leading up to beta launch: December 2018 Network Stats Overview This release will add a section to Narrative HQ that features the following stats: number of members, monthly active users (MAU), Network Rewards pool balance, purchased Niches, approved Niches, and number of Niche Owners. Post beta release, we’ll continue to build out this section to include additional...

Re: IMPORTANT - Get on the "Voted for Narrative on Kucoin" List

Malkazoid ·
Hi Mark, Useful feedback thank you! I should not assume everyone knows why Kucoin is so important. + Kucoin is a trusted, large exchange. + Regardless of whether you are interested in cryptocurrency, or not at all, this will have a large impact on the growth curve of this project, and signing up on Kucoin costs nothing, and risks nothing. It takes about 1 minute to do - enter your email, choose a password, click on the confirmation link in your email, and you're ready to vote. + For a number...

Re: IMPORTANT - Get on the "Voted for Narrative on Kucoin" List

Malkazoid ·
Yes, that's a fair summary I think. Right now, with scant trading options, there is no way for Narrative to reach a healthy volume of trading, which leaves us stuck at this point of low valuation, anemic volume and the need for new alpha users to be able to purchase NRVE. Beyond stability, it offers visibility, and a positive confidence boost for the project for those who operate in the crypto sphere. Unlike you and me who see primarily the value of the project itself, with the currency as...

Awesome, thanks! Any chance this variable could be posted to a central place alongside the other metrics? Having them centralised would be key to understanding where we are at, at a glance.

Fantastic suggestions so far - that would reap immediate benefits for the process. Forgive me if this is already there and I'm just no seeing it: could we have the following centralised metrics: - a tally somewhere of how many Validated Niches there are - a tally of how many Niches under Evaluation there are - the number of members signed up for the Alpha - Niches Proposed per Member figure, that tells us exactly how well we are doing in terms of member participation in the process I feel...

Re: Wanted Features

Soňa ·
Hi again, I just thought of other features that might be interesting to see. 1) for a niche a ratio of founders (or in a later period members) who voted to all founders (or members - later) who registered in alpha so far. I suppose it would be nice to see it in the summary section of each niche, but it is just an idea. So each member would see how many other members voted for his niche compared to total number of people registered in. 2) another ratio: number of founders (or members) who...

David Dreezer ·
In some ways it hugest social study, ever. It's been a fun to see how people discuss all of the principles behind Narrative, and then each little detail - in great detail. It's been a blast to see how people attack their niche decisions. Before the Alpha I was wondering will they go as huge and broad as possible, or do they narrow it down as tightly as they can? Will a lot of people jump in as soon as possible and try to nail their niche? Or wait on it and wait till the founders run out of...

It is very exciting @Harj ! I am finding myself constantly checking in on the niches and conversations. I hope there is some sort of posting version in the alpha version that will allow us to begin writing some content for our niches. It would be great to harness this enthusiasm while having some content in place when the beta version opens in the 4th quarter. I am sure the core team has thought of this already.

Re: PORN NICHE

Michael Farris ·
Very astute comments here. @Malkazoid in particular voices the variety of issues in play. It's not breaking any secrets to say the team is talking about the issues and will draft a default set of guidelines to get us started. Ultimately, the community at large will have a say in such matters and for now, I am telling people to vote as they want in the Alpha because that is the one place available for registering an opinion.

Re: Marketing and exchanges are they connected?

Ted ·
Don't worry... we have plans for promoting Narrative, and more specifically niches, since that is the focus of Chaucer. We need to get the word out about the purpose and value of niches and we plan to do so. Our goal is to have lots and lots of niches that have been claimed in advance of the launch of the beta so that users have a plethora of subject areas to express their interest in (and post to). As for exchanges... the primary purpose now is to provide liquidity so that people can use...

Cost of niche renewal

Paolo Ciccone ·
Hi. First of all, thank you for setting up Narrative and the alpha program. This is an exciting initiative and I'm honored to be part of it. I was reviewing the rules for niche ownership renewal. Can we discuss the fee system? The way it's structured now, the owner will pay either the smaller price, for a niche that is preactically dead, or 20% of the revenues generated the previous year. This is a bit steep. The renewal is practically a 20% tax on income. Considering that the owner will...

DASH NICHE

MiguelIglesias ·
I've been a bit disconnected from the Narrative ecosystem, so I'm sorry if something I say is redundant or incorrect. I have seen that there is a lot of activity on Twitter aimed at the owners of niches and their relationship with the moderators, but I am not very up to date and I am not sure what it is about. If there are volunteers to moderate my Dash niche and the term is already open, I will happily accept the suggestion. See you in Narrative!

Re: DASH NICHE

MOLLY O ·
Hi @MiguelIglesias . Welcome back. We launched the Moderator Center today and so I am glad you are seeing this on Twitter. People can self nominate for purchased niches starting today. Official voting/elections will not occur until the Beta. As an owner, you can select how many moderators you want for your Dash niche. The default is set to 2 now. To do this, feel free to browse around in the Alpha or simply read this blog post: The Moderator Center is live!

Getting Started in Narrative

MOLLY O ·
You found your way to the Narrative Alpha, now what? First, did you get an email giving you access to the Narrative Alpha ? If not, you need to get on our waitlist to get early access. You can do that here. If you got the email saying the round has been unlocked, go ahead and sign in to create your account. The Narrative Alpha was recently upgraded significantly with a new look and feel (and all new infrastructure). The beta will be released in March 2019, but we are rolling out incremental...

You can create and post content in Narrative now to both your Personal Journal and Nches. The public won't be able to see this until we launch in March this year. If you are referring to the "Publications " channel we talk about in the Spec, that is not available in the Alpha at this time.

Confusion Over Niche Voting

Bryan ·
I'm REALLY disappointed in @Ted for voting to reject my Niche topic. I'm wracking my brains to give him ( and the others that have followed suit that I've had very positive interactions with like @Harj ) some meager benefit of doubt. Reviewing the brief instructions at the top of the Niche Ballot page are some instructions on how to approach Niche voting. One column for upvoting , and one for rejecting proposed Niches. The first bullet describes...

Re: Confusion Over Niche Voting

I noticed this pattern in voting. What can I say. Humans are fallible. We must be extremely careful to include safeguards in our processes, and not leave them entirely up to the wisdom of moderators, or even tribunals of elected members. We need something akin to a constitution that delineates that actions contrary to it can be overturned. PS I too have approved every niche so far. They all meet the criteria.

yes... I agree personal preferences really need to be taken out of the equation. People need to remember we aren't voting on our perceived popularity of a niche.

Re: Confusion Over Niche Voting

Thanks @Emily Barnett I'm not too worried about the voting, just the Ted part of it. It's also surprising that @Rosemary 's proposed Niche, Beach Life, is also getting some serious hostility. Just shows people are voting with their affinities and aesthetic preferences! I need to remember this is the very first Niche voting experience. The team will sort it out.

@mrgoodsett Thanks. I tried to be as succinct as possible in the description. But, after getting downvotes, I pasted the text into a Flesch-Kincade text analyzer and it registered as an 19th-grade reading level. So, maybe the downvotes were really just confused votes? I dunno. It's definitely more complicated than Dogs.

Hi Bryan, I noticed this too. Seemed odd to me as well. But don't fret too much...When i voted for it, it popped you up into 63% with that one vote. There is hardly any members there yet. I am sure you will have more than enough votes from this small community as it begins to log on.

Oh man @mrgoodsett I shudder to think what my grade is at.. I abhor the idea of dumbing down writing.... I like the notion of evolving not devolving... but I get your point. Simple language leads to less confusion. I must keep this in mind when it is my turn to suggest a niché.

Being the devil's advocate here: I didn't understand your niche, nor I had ever heard in my life the concept "New Parish". Had to google it now to understand what it was, and then after all the polemic here I decided to vote for it. Maybe that's why people didn't vote for it?

I confess to also having downvoted Beach Life and "Oil or Life", however after reading this post I can see that we need as many niches as possible to accommodate as many different views as possible - so I have now changed my vote. Thanks for changing my mind :-)

I imagine that each person is going to come up with their own voting habits, but hopefully everyone will give Niches benefit of the doubt and only downvote sparingly, when necessary. I'm anxious to see what patterns emerge.

@Andreas Hauser thanks, yeah—I did the same thing with Dogs (which I love). I was thinking it has to be "unique" as in "interesting"—not "unique" as in "distinct". And like @ClosetCrypto said, regardless of whether or not I even understand what the Niche is, I'll vote for it if it's distinct.

Re: Confusion Over Niche Voting

Currently, there are 44 Niches, and NO redundant proposals. However, only 10 of the 44 have a 100% approval score. This means 77% of the proposed Niches have met with resistance by the voting community. Clearly we need some voter education ! I have two solutions which are completely agnostic to the level of effort required to implement! Force rejection votes to select WHICH reason they are using to reject a Niche. (a) Redundant, or (b) Violates ToS Exclude members from receiving community...

Don't know if I agree with this. I haven't voted for a few of the Niches because simply I do not think the subject is well described nor I fully understand what it is. If we vote "Yes" for every single Niche just because "We are a supportive community," then we should just skip the voting altogether. My 2 cents

I think that is the problem. Just because someone doesn't know what Darning Lore is, doesn't mean the one who submitted it isn't deeply connected with content creators from the sock-darners subculture and the seedy back-alleys of underground knitters & stitchers. The Niche proposer is the one who sees its potential. The community is here to vet redundancy and violation of terms. Language is important—similar to the Niche "owner" fiasco... "voting" is presenting its own set of...

@EDUARDO HERNÁNDEZ , I totally agree. There are so far several niches where the description could be done better. The "oil or life" niche is a good example. Although I voted for this niche, since I suppose I know what the topic should represent and it is generally ok for me, I would really like to see some possibility to modify the niche description (only by its creator) after it was proposed and possibly discussed by other members. At the end, there could be people who are also interested...

I would have to disagree. Voting is not mandatory. If you don't feel like something deserves a Yes vote doesn't automatically mean you have to vote No. The 3rd option is to just not vote at all on that Niche. Just because I don't understand something or think it isn't properly described is not justification enough for me to cast a No vote. As always, just my thoughts.

Re: Confusion Over Niche Voting

Brian Lenz ·
@Soňa , once you have won the auction for a niche, you can submit name and description updates, which are subsequently voted on by the community according to the same criteria used for new niches (not redundant and no TOS violations). Thus, the name and description is not locked in, so I wouldn't let it stop you from bidding on a niche that isn't quite phrased the way you like.
