Decentralised social network building - how can we beat the odds

Malkazoid ·
I recently read this interesting article, which lists some of the serious difficulties aspiring decentralised social networks face. Most of them are relevant to the success we all wish to bring about for Narrative. https://www.wired.com/story/decentralized-social-networks-sound-great-too-bad-theyll-never-work/ I'd like to have an exchange with the community on how we can overcome some of these obstacles. I'm going to propose one provocative solution to grow Narrative successfully. Might it...

You may want to talk to the people over at Social X. I am one of the limited beta testers over there. I like the product alot..very much like Instgram. their rewards are going to be different than Narrative. it isn't fully flushed out yet but I think they could be a compatible platform to work with. Having photos seamlessly merge into the Narrative journaling ecosphere seems interesting. I know you want something established, but it was a thought...

My first thought was they're probably keen to launch their own product since they are already well on their way... But if their product is quite different and they are focused on photo sharing Instagram style, then I guess we should ask the @Narrative Network Team whether merging would be beneficial, or whether they already plan to develop the best aspects of Instagram functionality in Narrative?

A really good article! How did I miss this in Wired last summer? The TLDR for me They've touched on a key appeal of Narrative. We are going to make it easy for people to move their content into the ecosystem -- and off, for that matter. Hence there will be importers for popular platforms . This of course works at the individual creator level with "owned" content. Entire networks? Fascinating idea. I guess most of all it would be up to the platform directors. Some as well would be how their...

Thanks Michael - and yes, that is a basic incompatibility that would prevent a high level merger. I missed that. I’ll keep my eyes out for existing projects that might be more suitable...

Thanks! I was also thinking about the knock-on effect of GDPR where data-portability is baked into compliance. I expect that even non-EU projects will be pressured to offer an option for "take it with you." What that means is half the work of importing is done. We'll know exactly how data is packaged. If it's all simply zipped (as it is in the Hoop.la product here) then we can build a loader for it. Of course, the process runs both ways. If there is a better platform out there, Narrators can...

Hello, I've recently found this project.. I've been on Steemit for a year have been powering down because of all the whale drama, platform short comings and reward pool rape.. I would love to start fresh here, But I was told on signup it was only by invite.. How does one get invited?
