Poll/survey function available for these forums

Malkazoid ·
Hello all, Upon suggesting that polling would be useful for the Narrative community forums, @Brian Lenz thought we should discuss this here. Enabling polling/surveys would allow the team to measure support for various functions and initiatives, and would allow the community to present it's own suggestions and concerns in an efficient and easily digestible way. If you see use for this, please speak up!

Yes. I think polls and surveys that go both ways, is a very good idea.

As always, you make great suggestions and very thoroughly and well throughout threads/comments. Having pools/surveys would be a great tool to have and used rightly could help get more members engaged in the creation of the platform. That said, this (official community forum) to me, is not suited building an active and engaging community going forward, this will most likely be one of the last comments I make here.

Hey - I feel bad, as if I haven't been paying close enough attention, because I did not see this coming! I have read some of your posts expressing concern over some of the team's decisions recently - is it from a lack of response by the team to those posts that you feel the forum isn't working? That's fair enough. I hope the @Narrative Network Team responds - we should not be losing people like you. You're a really valuable contributor and if something has made you want to leave the forum, I...

Ditto for me @[email protected] I too have sensed your growing frustration (and others amongst what I consider core participants). I am open to private messaging on telegram. I am currently putting in super long days at work and not as active as i was before...therefore i feel I no longer have my thumb on the pulse of what is going on.

Both! You will know what information you want to get from the community, and the community will know what information it wants to present to you. Allowing the polls to be a two-way means of communicating will yield the best data set for you.

So you guys are interested in creating surveys yourselves, or us creating more surveys, or both? Curious to hear use cases...there is a survey functionality that's part of this community platform, but it's disabled for now (trying to keep things simple at the outset).

just wondering if they will make poll slightly different? Like founders being able to vote twice while member vote once? something of this nature could be unique

Hey - That's a kind thought towards Founders @Madhanic but I personally would feel uncomfortable with my vote counting for more than other members. The team would probably be able to track and make separate tallies of Founder votes and other votes for their own purposes of better understanding the distribution of sentiment, but I think that would be best left for their internal purposes.

Trending Photography appeal

Malkazoid ·
Hello @Brian Lenz Thanks for your vote on this appeal. I just wanted to discuss it with you a little bit because your comment on your vote did not sound like you were taking into account the systemic ramifications for accepting niches as unique because they have 'trending' added to an otherwise pre-existing niche. Your comment was: I of course see the distinction you are making. There is such a thing as a trend in any domain, and it is distinct from timeless or classical...

Hi @Malkazoid , First and foremost, Merry Christmas! I totally understand where you're coming from. If the niche was "Trending Photographs" then I would agree it's problematic. As named, Photography Trends doesn't have the same connotation in my mind. I do realize that the description mentions "Trending photos" which I think is sub-optimally described, but not inherently flawed to warrant rejection. I see very little risk of someone posting pictures of their cat to the Photography Trends...

I think the problem is one of succinctness, scarcity, and potency. If we allow endless variations of 'main topic' niches, then anyone could create 5 niches that were similar using the main topic niche and various qualifiers as prefixes, suffixes, and subtopics (ie. Oakland Trends, Oakland Now, Oakland Tomorrow, Today's Oakland, Our Oakland). Domain names are a reckless example of this. I understand having 'enough' or the 'more the merrier' niches create a higher revenue model and broadens...

Hi @Brian Lenz ! Indeed, Merry Xmas - almost the end of Boxing Day now - to you and yours! It has been a very relaxed one here! Your post does help me understand how you reached your conclusion, thank you. My concerns remain, and I think your post acknowledges where the rub is, without, I think, realizing the importance of it: So there are two problems that compound each other. Photography is already widely synonymous for photos in people's minds Even without the description, many, and...

Ongoing patronage

Malkazoid ·
Another helpful suggestion from a certain Edward Morbius on Google+ (he moderates on the Google+ Mass Migration forum): ongoing patronage. I agree with him - this is something I think the @Narrative Network Team might want to take a close look at. I know we have plans slated for tip jar functionality already. But if we take it a step further, and allow people to pledge regular support to their favourite content creators, we'd be really taking it to another level, and replicating part of...

Good, right? As well as being supportive of creators, it also boosts the demand for NRVE.
