Features to help our Moderators do a great job.

Emily Barnett ·
I was thinking about how busy moderators may get on popular niches, as the platform grows. A moderator of a popular niche like cryptocurrency may have too much suggested content to review each day. It got me wondering if the Niches will have a tab or section for the moderator/owners standards for which they accept content. (ie. original photographs vs stock photos...or the opposite...a certain amount of words per submission etc.) I thought I would pose the question, to see if the community...

Is there a limit to the number of moderators? Bigger niche = more moderator assuming that there is more views and hence more income, otherwise it would not be attractive to be a moderator in that bigger niche. Guess that we need to find a balance and optimal number of moderator for each niche?

Good question @Madhanic ...I considered this too. I guess it may depend on the moderators if they are willing to divy up the 6%, but i guess the functionality would have to be in the programed to allow 2 moderators to get paid. Perhaps we could make an application to have 2 moderators share the work load should our niche become big and profitable. I could see that happening with Crypto.

Thanks, @Emily Barnett for opening this topic, again an interesting one! I was actually assuming that there would be more moderators for popular niches because there will be more traffic and therefore more people necessary to regulate it. I also had the impression that all moderators of a certain niche will receive the same amount from that niche regardless of how much they are moderating. Maybe I got it wrong because it seems to me more logical to have the moderator payout directly...

So Excellent. As much as i am involved as a Niche owner...I see that role for me as the smallest of my roles. I am interested in moderating and very interested in being a content creator. Very much looking forward to what the team rolls out next for moderators.

"Moderators" is the sleeper feature of Narrative. What I mean is that the functionality sounds pretty "to-be-expected" but the way they work will be distinct from content managers in FB or Twitter. I've been digesting this article: Content mods would solve an urgent problem if anyone were willing to pay them and thinking about the long-term effect our moderators will have on the new content economy. A few distinctives: Niche moderators are known to and voted for by the niche community Niche...

Just dropping this in here....we definitely anticipate multiple moderators for busy niches. Here's how the payout works (page 20 of the white paper):

I'm wondering how customizable the dashboard of a moderator will be. In relation to Emily's original question, if the moderator can customize their dashboard, then the actual number of tabs and folders will depend on each moderator. I imagine everyone organizes their work differently and would want flexibility in this regard. Do we know if this will be the case?

Thanks for this clarification @Rosemary I am glad that the functionality to have multiple moderators is already built in. Will our Niches have tabs or sections, for About, and Submission criteria?

I'll post this other comment in here because I'm not ready for a full-on post about moderators. @David Dreezer found a great article on what FB and YouTube do for content moderation "at scale." Since they handle millions of items, it's eye-opening. See the Techdirt article called First Steps ... . They mention an upcoming second Content Moderation at Scale Conference in Washington, DC on May 7. Representatives from a wide range of tech companies both big and small will be talking in detail...

@krill we haven't thought that far ahead to a UI yet but we will work back from the toolset moderators will need for their job. A fast way to organize "what's new" will be #1 followed by a suite of the tools you may need (move, block, moderate etc)

The specifics of what's going to appear on the Niche main page are still fluid. Stay tuned!

How to appeal an approved niche that probably shouldn't have been approved?

Malkazoid ·
Hello! I think I've been able to do this in the past, but I cannot see any way to do that right now. If it is possible, can someone point me in the right direction? And if it isn't possible, why not? Thanks!

Rosemary ·
Yes, you can still do that. Go to the Niche details page (where you can see the list of actions, like when the auction ended, when the moderator elections started, etc.). Click the three dots in the top right corner. You'll see "appeal to Tribunal."

The Business of Blogging niche (please don't let it die!)

Christina Gleason ·
When I originally typed up the name and description of my suggested Business of Blogging niche , it was simply "The Business of Blogging" and a slightly different description. But as I was going over my old blog posts I'm trying to repurpose - including lots of conference session liveblogs with advice for bloggers - I realized that bloggers HAVE to branch out onto other platforms now. I have. So I added "and Digital Content Creation " to the name and switched up some words in the...

I keep going back and forth on this. I decide i will switch my vote, then I decide not to after I think about what you say you intend to post on the niche. Here's the thing. I get that you want to have a business of blogging. I am for that, it makes sense that you want to have it as a sub set of the content entrepreneur. But then you state that you have content discussing how bloggers need to branch our into other social media...well that content certainly fits onto The content Entrepreneur...

I suggested the niche before we had our problems. I didn't even know that Content Entrepreneur was yours until after I submitted my suggestion and its first comment. @Garden Gnome Publications made the suggestion that he would vote for it if it was simply "The Business of Blogging." I intended to change the description to reflect the social content aspect. It was always my intent for this niche to serve the blogging community specifically , since some of our biggest communities have been...

To whom it may concern: Here is what I intend to edit the title and description to: The Business of Blogging FOR BLOGGERS: Discuss issues that affect us as bloggers & our additional roles creating social content on other platforms for our existing communities. This is our virtual blogging conference space! This is NOT a place for blog posts on other subjects. Assuming I didn't go over the character limit, that's what I came up with just now for the new description. I'm unhappy with the...

I get how the business of blogging is a subset. it is the branching out part that makes it more of a expanded topic. I am not trying to thwart your personally. Can you post here what you intend to change it to when you purchase and submit to the tribunal for approval. You are asking me, and everyone else to vote for it on what you intend to do. If you write your exact changes, it gives me a lot more accuracy to decide on, and a backstop to appeal to the tribunal if you leave it unchanged.

I changed my vote, but I do agree that there is some slight overlap between the 2 said niches. It'll be really, really handy to have a niche map sometime soon. As sub-niches overlapping with their parent topic will be more common as more niches are being suggested. Not that it's necessarily a bad thing since content can be tagged to up to 3 niches, but still, if differences are unclear to us they'll certainly be unclear to the average visitor.

I agree with @Garden Gnome Publications in the content that you still are broaching another topic, but this is enough of a move in the a more narrowed subset for me to change my vote.

I think these changes make it enough of a difference to distinguish it from Content Entrepreneur, but as I read what you're writing, I'm not sure you need the social content aspect of it in your description. I'm still voting for it, but if your intent is to discuss the business of blogging , there's a lot more to that than content strategy. For instance, I can see people on the following topics: How to be a good affiliate Finding suitable images for your blog posts XX Ways formatting makes...
