Personal Journals

mrgoodsett ·
We haven't had very much discussion about Personal Journals on the community page. I was wondering if the team could give us a little more insight on the Personal Journals? I know the niches are the main focus of the Alpha launch this month but I think the Personal journals might be a big surprise on Narrative. " PERSONAL JOURNALS Every registered member in Narrative has a Personal Journal. This is their own personal Narrative, and the only content on a Personal Journal is the content by...

Great point Mr Goodsett I think the personal journal is a great place for all of us to start and get into Narrative, to develop ourselves and the ideas we are thinking about, great place to have all your followers in one place and let others comment on your actions/posts. you well be also gaining activity points from the support you have gained. in effect this really is your homepage and you should personalise it as much as you can, thats what I will be doing : )

Folk might come for the niches but I think people will stay for the Journals.

It is interesting that the personal journals haven't been talked about much! The cool thing is that, when you write something for your personal journal, you can also suggest it for a Niche or two (it has to be "accepted" by the Niche moderator to show up in the Niche). That way you can be extending the reach of your content! Ultimately, the personal journals make it even easier to "just sit down and write!"

@Rosemary Thanks, that was a question I had about the Journals and niches.

Is the personal journal basically a single stream of content, or is it possible to subdivide in some way for those folks who have several facets they want to write about somewhat separately?

Will popular content in a Personal Journal have the same rewards as popular content in a Niche?

Re: Personal Journals

I think you'll have just as many Personal Journal Writers as Niche Writers (some will do both). Those that make their journal public and you can follow their daily journal will be a very interesting concept that I think will gauge a lot of interest.

@Alex Shepherd do you know if Personal journals which end up being popular will have the same rewards as popular Niche articles?

This is exactly what I started thinking the other day. Yes, it's great to have a permanent income by just owning a popular Niche, but I am a writer. I would LOVE to make money by doing what I love instead of by just sitting there, doing nothing.

The source of the content is irrelevant in determining content creator awards. It doesn't matter if the content is only listed in a personal journal, or in a niche or in a brand. If the content is popular, it will still be rewarded.

@Ted Thanks for all. This is good info to know. Makes me not worry so much about losing out on a niche idea. Maybe you should let others know.

" Personal Journals cannot have moderators. Personal Journals may be suspended by the Tribunal for any reason. (And note that users may report Personal Journal content to the Tribunal." In looking at this, have there been guidelines drawn about "guidelines for suspension"?

Making posts on your personal journal in Narrative

Harj ·
Hi Guys If you make a post on your personal journal lets say about Bitcoin would it also ask if you want to add it to the niche that you are a member of like Bitcoin so the post will be in two places your personal journal and the Niche Bitcoin ? or just one place like your Journal. ? And im guessing that when making your post it will give you that option to add ? Another way to put it is do all your posts that you make on various niches always get added to your personal journal.? Thank you.

What Kind of Contributor will you be?

Emily Barnett ·
As we get closer to the launch of the Narrative platform that enables us to publish content, accrue or dissipate our reputation, and earn financial compensation for our creativity, I pose the question to you all "what kind of contributor will you be?" Will you build a content-maker brand for yourself? Both aesthetically and subject wise? Will you be a generalist... writing about what ever strikes your fancy and find the appropriate niche to present your work on? Or do you plan to be a...

Yes, I suppose to some extent the (or at least a) question is: How niche is any given niche? I definitely want to try out some new stuff, since I spend all day banging on about my specialist area. And I think that would be a worthwhile investment occasionally for me, regardless of how well it does, because it's a kind of creative crop-rotation, preventing the depletion of the top-soil of my imagination and creativity. On the other hand, branching out can all too easily become simply...

I too am not fully decided. I definitely want to hone in on my given topics of expertise, but there are so many interesting Niches being proposed that I do feel I may stretch my creative wings a little bit. I guess it kind of depends how much I am doing this to earn financial gain vs creative outlet. I may find I like writing and producing imagery for a format that doesn't support much rewards, and have to determine if it is worth the investment of time, or if the creative richness is enough.

It's a good question, but not one I entirely have an answer to just yet. I suppose the best I can do at the moment, is hope to be a 'good' contributor. What that means in practice, I think depends a great deal on how the format and function of narrative actually turns out in the end.

Because I see myself as a creative who follows her curiosity, I think creativity will be how I relate my content to whatever subject matter I may be interested in and write about. I am really going to try to be consistent with my writing and Narrative is going to be my main outlet to share on (besides my own website.) My first priority will always be to get myself going and stop being such a perfectionist, and after time, doing so will get me in the right spot to start thinking in terms of...

I really like the concept of Narrative, and how it offers an alternative to Big Social, so I'd like to contribute to it in that sense --in the broader sense. I'm rebuilding a boat this winter, so I'll be documenting that process to the best of my abilities here on Narrative. I'll also be traveling (by boat) to a remote Island next spring/summer/fall to start the process of building a cabin, so I'll probably document that journey as well. I'm really fascinated with the transition from fossil...

Great question @Emily Barnett . I don't know if I have the time, or care enough, to brand myself... And, my interests (much like @Crystal says above) are varied and constantly changing... so, I imagine my personal hustle on Narrative will be sporadic, and, all over the map. For the Niches I own, I see myself more as a promoter and advocate—looking to find those people with a more refined passion for content creation than my own, and encouraging them with their creative participation.

Censorship

Eduardo Hernández ·
I was reading a different post, and got a bit doubtful about this particular line that described the Personal Journals: " Personal Journals may be suspended by the Tribunal for any reason. (And note that users may report Personal Journal content to the Tribunal.) " So, let me get this straight: if somebody stumbles upon my PERSONAL content and, for any reason, decides to report it, I will be kicked out or suspended from Narrative? In the words of my beloved Charles Bukowski, "What the...

Re: Censorship

The whole goal of Narrative is to not have a backroom group mysteriously banning or deleting with no explanation. That's the system in place now, on most social networks. What we want is free expression, with some mechanism to denote content that may be NSFW, so that those who are easily offended can choose not to see that content. The Tribunal will ultimately be made up of community members who are elected (and who can be removed) by the will of the community. Hopefully they will reflect...

Thanks for clarifying this, @Rosemary . I am an advocate for freedom of speech, specially as an existential erotica writer. I do, on the other hand, condemn hate speech, and all types of violence towards an specific group of people. So, if I understand Narrative's position, you won't censure anything that doesn't crosses these kind of lines, right?

Somewhere here there is a blog entry that Molly wrote for that, but the quick answer is to go to your niche from your profile. On the niche page click the 3 dots, then click management hub. Click niche settings, and there you have it.

Since you've requested 3 moderators, I'm going to assume you've figured out how to change the number of moderators needed for your niches. How does one do this? I haven't been able to figure it out.
