Question

Translators niche. Does Narrative need more for translation service?

alex_bio ·
Recently I bought Translators niche (https://www.narrative.org/n/translators) According to its definition, "A niche for providing translation services of articles inside Narrative..." --> "...inside Narrative..." But what about the --> outside of Narrative? I suppose that Narrative could provide translation service for materials published outside of Narrative as well. So... a) do we need a separate niche for the "outside" part? or b) may I just change the definition of Translators...

Hi @alex_bio "A niche for providing translation services of articles inside Narrative, in order to increase diffusion of the best articles in this platform and provide work to translators." It sounds to me that it's intended for inside Narrative - and would be a great service! wondering if translators get their translations voted on, as well as posts that are translated.

It sounds like the change you are suggesting would change the original description of the Niche name that was voted on by the Community.

I saw your suggested niche, researched and found the existing one, and agree that one appears to just be for inside Narrative. The new one expands it to globally, sure. Do we really need both though? I don't think they overlap as described, but they probably could be combined into one with a simple edit, no?

@Finnian "...but they probably could be combined into one with a simple edit, no?" yes, I thought they could be easily combined into one, but I agreed with the previous messages here in this case cause indeed that change (broadening the scope) would change the initial meaning of the Niche (--> inside Narrative) that was previously voted on by the Community. So, I've suggested the new one -> Translators Global (--> outside of Narrative) I supposed that change of the first niche...

@Colleen Ryer "...wondering if translators get their translations voted on, as well as posts that are translated." Just an example. Let's say you want your post titled "On Growing Glaciers and Climate Confusion" translated into Japanese. ("...as well as posts that are translated..." in this case your post has been already voted on) As far as I understand, these days on Narrative we can only publish posts in English. Let's say that we have Japanese community on Narrative and professional...

Hi @alex_bio So, just to see if I have it straight - as things currently stand for inside narrative The original posts in English are voted on as usual -translations wind up off-site. Translators are paid for service using nrve. Reviews by translators posted in the translation niche itself add more rewards for them, and also reward the niche owner. Cool Eventually, languages other than English will also be supported on the platform so translated posts can stay on site, - would likely add...

Asking for Narrative team help/advice. Translators Global niche. To be or not to be?

alex_bio ·
So, recently I bought Translators niche approved back in Sep 2018. According to its definition it’s “A niche for providing translation services of articles inside Narrative, in order to increase diffusion of the best articles in this platform and provide work to translators.” -> inside Narrative What about the outside of Narrative? I asked a question here https://community.narrative.org/support/topic/translators-niche-does-narrative-need-more-for-translation-service “Translators niche.

Hi @alex_bio Thanks for bringing up the contests. Translations for in house posts as a way to keep nrve circulating on the platform compares nicely. The best translation winning helps boost quality. Other entries, including the competitors, have a chance to earn rewards, and the opportunity to improve on translation skills. the owner of the work has full view of what's going on with their post and to communicate too. Once people can post in their first language, there's still opportunity for...

thanks, @Colleen Ryer , I have a lot to think about, I guess adding "via contests" is a good idea. And I hope to hear responses from the team

@MOLLY O sorry for tagging. Seems like I haven't got any responses from the team about my questions. I suppose that I asked too many questions or just didn't express myself clearly. 1 month later I see that all I need to know is 1. Would it be OK to use NRVE as a payment option for the job done by Narrative translators community on platforms like https://translateme.market/ This platform allows translators and clients to collaborate directly, ensures fairness and allows to pay translators...

@alex_bio . Lots of information to absorb here and maybe future opportunity as well. I see this is a similar to contents - which are paying NRVE. The challenge I see is that all posts must be in English right now. Let me think about this bit more and get back to you.

yes, there's a lot of information. "The challenge I see is that all posts must be in English right now." I'd like to mention that Translators ( https://www.narrative.org/n/translators ) and Translators Global ( https://www.narrative.org/n/translators-global ) niches could serve right now (when posts must be in English only) solely to 1. publish posts with requests by those users who need/want something (their own posts or something published on the Web (with appropriate license (which allows...
