My Opinion on Niche Ownership

Onlinedollars ·
According to the data on Narrative HQ, there are 979 active niches at the time of writing and about 354 niche owners. Also, 3398 niches are already approved. Comparing this with the active niches, we should note that there are challenges somewhere. Here are my suggestions: 1) the people that created the active niches that has no bidding at all yet approved should be contacted to know if there is a challenge in payment. For someone to suggest a niche, it means that they believe that such a...

@Onlinedollars . Anyone can suggest a Niche - and they don't have to buy it. The suggester does not have to bid on the Niche at all. We had a long alpha period that included just the Niche process. The point was to get some approved and ready for when people were ready to bid on them later. Anyone can bid on the Niche once it is approved. There are more active Niches than owners because members can own up to 10 Niches. If someone fails to pay for a Niche, the Niche is automatically put back...

Hi @MOLLY O Can members with a negative conduct score bid on niches? I thought there was a requirement for medium rep to bid. Thanks!

Yes, my wife bought some with a reputation of 40, but the deposits were required. They were refunded though later. Since she's in full time schooling and doing a BSN at the same time as RN, she's too busy to really participate for now. At least it is possible for her to buy niches though, and we are both thankful for it!

Re: The Cost of Publications - Honour the Narrators who funded Narrative

Vico Biscotti ·
The idea seems only fair and positive, in my opinion. Anyway, the cost of publications is quite high in all cases. The basic option suffers the competition of Medium, at least. I don't see many reasons to pay for a publication on Narrative when I can have - for free - a publication on a platform with a much larger community and no limits in terms of editors and writers. The business option, the only viable option for anyone who's serious about their project, has a stellar price. I don't...

As a qualifying 10-niche owner, I have to say that this is the only way I could own a publication. I cannot afford to throw more money at Narrative when I can't be sure the NRVE in my wallet will even cover the initial cost of my niche investments when I decide to cash some of it out. I would love to run a publication and have real editorial standards. I could get people to join to write for a publication while I can't get them to join to post in the current nichesphere. They might...

Hi @Antimetica ! We're all newborn babies when it comes to all of this: the features are not here yet, and we only know the broad lines of what they will be like. The Team plans to include monetisation paths for Publications, so once that is in place, your comments about Editors/Owners will probably be very wise, and in some ways, they already are. Because niche owners benefit when they publish great content in their publication, that drives people to their niches. So they can indirectly...

Re: The Cost of Publications - Honour the Narrators who funded Narrative

Antimetica ·
This sounds like a good proposal @Malkazoid I'm feeling a bit silly now, because in my latest article I wrote, I advised Editors (Owners, was my way of thinking in my mind at the time) should not write in their Publication very much. But now it seems that would be the only way for a Publication owner to earn anything is by writing in their own Publication and posting to a niche. So I feel a bit foolish, and embarrassed, and I'm wondering at all now if Publications are even meant for us as...

Thank you for offering solace @Malkazoid I do hope your proposal is considered and responded to, soon. You helped fund development of this software, it is a serious matter at hand.

The Cost of Publications - Honour the Narrators who funded Narrative

Malkazoid ·
( A more detailed description of this suggestion can be found on the platform here - the comments may hold important info there too ) Narrative Publications cost $125 USD per year for the basic option, allowing for only 5 writers. If you want to feature content from more than 5 writers, the cost jumps to 299 USD per year . This pricing is an issue. First observation: publications on Medium are free . Medium is a far more established platform already delivering much higher quality content!
