Activity - views and likes

Malkazoid ·
Dear @Narrative Network Team I have a question regarding how activity is measured. Since this measure is the foundation of the network rewards attributions, it would be great for us to look at it in a little bit of detail. Right now, from what I have understood, this measurement is based purely in comments, and likes. A) Do likes on comments constitute extra activity for the content, and niche? B) Do views amount to anything, even if the view does not lead to a like? B is of interest to...

No Activity Points Re-Set for Rewards

Rosemary ·
Thank you all for your passion and contributions! There are a few key points I’d like to make: We will not be doing a re-set for the Community Rewards. The activity points you have accumulated will be maintained through the end of the Community Rewards period. We had a miscommunication internally, and I apologize for any confusion on that front. (FYI here are the community rewards rules .) This Narrative community on hoop.la isn’t going away. This community is by necessity detached from the...

Improving Narrative messaging - we're being outdone by the competition

Malkazoid ·
Hello, I want to take a hard look at the core message being delivered by one of our main competitors: Sapien network. Their slogan, front and centre on their website, reads as follows: BOOM. Ours? CRITERION 1 : take away points Sapien gives multiple, strong takeaway points in one gulp. A) "Take back your Social Experience" is a call to action that immediately infers there is something to gain/retrieve from switching to Sapien. In comparison, "Welcome to the world's journal" gives us a word...

A welcome thread for new members

Hey Guys, to get started here i think we should all know each other a bit better. So i’m starting, my name is Manuel. My crypto pseudo name is always Bitsurfer. I love to creating new content and share it to others for free. I’m an active member of bitcointalk, reddit, discord, telegram, facebook and twitter. I just changed my personal instagram account to a site where i review ICO’s and share use of crypto in the real world. We all should spread the word for $NRV So let’s start folks

Suggestion: Activity Search/Sort

Billy Mild ·
As users do more and more, their activity history grows larger. If someone wants to find, for example, what Niches they suggested, they have to sift through all their votes and nominations as well. While that's not too hard right now, it will get more difficult. I'd suggest implementing some kind of sorting and search feature to this area.

Unowned niches need to be active

Malkazoid ·
This seems to be the most pressing topic right now, so a good first 'Conversation' for the new version of the community forums. In an effort to see just how many people will come up against the jarring realisation that the tag they want can only be unlocked if someone spends $75, I tested the assertion made by the @Narrative Network Team that most topics are covered by owned niches. So I took some common areas of interest and searched for niches for them. Politics There are a few...

A Guide to Maintaining Reputation on Narrative : aka death of Simple Rep

Emily Barnett ·
I have been active in Narrative's Alpha since March 29, 2018. When I say active, I mean extremely active. There have been some lapses, I have had times of huge work expectations during the summer, and the passing of my father, but still I checked in at least once a week and did my voting. I gave frequent and constructive comments. I articulated well constructed niche suggestions, I have purchased 5 niches for which I have paid for within 1 or 2 days of winning. And I make appeals to the...

Factor in Rewards Balance Withdrawals when attributing Activity Points

Malkazoid ·
To incentivise holding onto NRVE, we could reduce Activity Points payouts inversely proportional to Rewards Points withdrawal percentage. So perhaps if 50% of one's Rewards Points are withdrawn in a given month, only 75% of Activity points are received at the end of that month. 100% withdrawn? 50% Activity Points received... This way, Narrators who have a financial need to convert to fiat every month will not be completely penalised. The idea is to incentivise without crippling. This would...

Active Users was a useful stat - could we bring it back?

Malkazoid ·
Since the recent update, I noticed on the stats page that what was previously called Active Users (in the last 30 days) is no longer there? Instead we now have Unique Visitors... Both figures are interesting, but I feel like the figure we lost was more meaningful for the health of the network. If I understand correctly, Unique Visitors represents the number of people who have connected with Narrative content in any way during the past 30 days, even just to read a single article, then leave,...

Activity Rewards friendly reminder

Drixx Madison ·
It would be really cool if there was a friendly reminder or countdown clock on our profile pages of when the activity period closes for rewards points. The last payout date was June 13th. Is the next date July 13th? I don't know. See my point? Even if the date was confirmed on some secondary channel or even under the Rewards tab, I'm not sure how often I'd remember to check it. But if the deadline was right in my profile pg it'd become a little game I play with myself. It would push me to...

The rating buttons look disabled by default

Andrew Wooldridge ·
As a newbie member and someone who as worked in UI for many years, I just wanted to call out that the rating box thumbs look "disabled" by default. I viewed many posts as a new reader and scrolled to the end, noted the rating but kinda skipped it because I thought perhaps I was not eligible to rate something yet because I was a newbie. Only after actually clicking on one, and waiting for it to update did I realize that they were "active". This seems like a minor usability issue. Please...
Question

Why don't my votes and comments show up in my activity feed?

VC Nickels ·
There's a post that I commented on that I wanted to go back to and for the life of me I can't find it. I looked in my activity feed thinking it would show there but it doesn't. I'd have thought that votes and, or at least, comments would show up in my activity feed. If I'm missing something, please point me in the right direction. If I'm not and they don't show, please consider this a suggestion.

Show Votes in Activity Feed

VC Nickels ·
Yes, once again another suggestion re: The Activity Feed. I asked a question over in the Questions section about Votes and Comments not showing up in the Activity feed. It seems that this sort if thing is common but @MOLLY O said she couldn't find one where tracking Votes was mentioned. So: Suggestion as noted in topic title; Show Votes in the Activity feed. I'm hijacking my own suggestion though to reiterate that all activity that involves site interaction (Posts,...

Re: Improving Narrative messaging - we're being outdone by the competition

Malkazoid ·
As a follow up, bonus consideration - Sapien has, right beneath it's tagline, a very effective boast of current activity that gives the immediate sense of an already active product. The following is elegantly and compactly laid out on a single line on their page 7860 POSTS CREATED 10855 COMMENTS MADE 2769 ACTIVE USERS 1070 ACTIVE BRANCHES 152 ACTIVE GROUPS 2324918 STAKED SPN ------------------------------------ We can't directly compete with this because we are in a limited functionality...

I hadn't heard about Sapien, but this is quite the detailed and enlightening read! I pretty much agree with your analysis of taglines. As for my 2 cents, I believe the whole line "The Content Economy" gives the impression that Narrative is aimed towards investors hoping to gain money in some way or another. I think Narrative should be marketed foremost as a democratic content platform that spreads it's revenue among it's contributors and in that regard, the term "Economy" may easily imply...

Re: Improving Narrative messaging - we're being outdone by the competition

Malkazoid ·
I agree @Slaz - the Content Economy is an attractive phrase in certain contexts. But not for mass appeal. It is too abstract, and doesn't make the content creator feel like it is immediately relevant to them. To us who understand the concept already, we get it that it means content creators will be part of an economy that they will benefit from. But for a newcomer, that phrase does not convey all that meaning at all. Instead, as you point out, it sounds like it is something for investors,...

All of this said, and messaging aside - from a aesthetic perspective, we're smoking Sapien. Their home page is not polished. Despite a slightly retro feel that may not appeal to everyone, the Narrative homepage has a distinctive style and speaks of attention to detail.

Re: Improving Narrative messaging - we're being outdone by the competition

Slaz ·
Agreed. While a bit abstract looking, Narrative's homepage layout feels unique and is easily distinguishable. For example, just looking at Narrative's newsletter header without reading the title and context of the email, will easily tell you it's from Narrative. Sapien's homepage on the other hand just looks like a dozen other crypto-related sites that try to be modern. They're even including those swirling vector thingamajigs on a dark blue-ish background in their header. It just screams...

Can you repost this please, as a suggestion in our ticket system so that it doesn't get lost/buried? Just click Post, then Support ticket. And choose Suggestion as the topic type. There's no guarantee we will implement it, or if we do, in the exact form as posted, but it makes a lot easier for us to track good suggestions and ideas when they are entered into the system this way. It really helps. Thanks!

Re: Active Users was a useful stat - could we bring it back?

Vico Biscotti ·
You read my mind. Just noticed a few minutes ago. To be honest, I like both metrics, Active Users (which I'd like back) and Unique Visitors. Total members is the one with less meaning to me. Yes, you can use it for having a rating but too many reasons for inactive members can be there, especially in the first years of the platform. It's a secondary metric, for me.

Re: Active Users was a useful stat - could we bring it back?

Malkazoid ·
I agree that Total Members/Active Users hides many reasons for inactivity, but you still end up with a figure that you can use to compare the health of the network to other networks, who might on average be subject to many of the same unknown factors... so the comparison may be more or less informative... but still informative.

Yes, I agree that active users stat is useful. We're considering an update on this...stay tuned. We wanted to add the unique visitors because content consumption is such an important aspect of what we're doing.

Re: Why don't my votes and comments show up in my activity feed?

Slaz ·
Votes and Comments do not show up on your Activity Feed at this time. So yes, I hope a (near) future release can have this added. I comment on other narrators posts a lot more than I post by myself, so it’s getting quite hard to keep track.

Re: Why don't my votes and comments show up in my activity feed?

It would definitely make it easier to keep track of activity.... Categories for activity would be good as well (Ex. Votes, Comments and Replies, Posts, Follows, etc) so we can sort/filter what can quickly become a long list of things.

Here is the comments suggestion link: https://community.narrative.or...ng-comments-on-posts I can't put my hands on the Votes in the Activities Tab but I know I have seen it several places. It could be it just came in as questions many times and suggested on the platform itself. If you feel strongly about it - feel free to post this one part as a suggestion. Use a good header so its easily discovered. Thanks!

Welcome Sarah! I'll certainly follow your Acupuncture niche, and may even find something to contribute now and then. Acupuncture helped me a lot recently with shoulder pain. I was fortunate to be referred to a very highly recommended acupuncturist in Guelph, Ontario - where we visit once or twice per year. I was impressed with the practitioner in many ways beyond the relief the treatment brought. I'm not sure if it was his training, or just his natural disposition, but he was far more...
