Deleting Posts

Bitsurfer7 ·
Hy members, i think it‘s a shame that people could get community reward points for posting useless things in the forum like a smiley or something else. We should enable a admin only for proofing posts. So that it is impossible to get points for doing nothing. We should act asap. Sincerly, bitsurfer

Spam risk management

Vico Biscotti ·
Currently, a new account is flooding the feed with short posts. This is especially a problem with discovery->recent. Downvoting for low quality can't stop this, and I'm not sure that downvoting for AUP violation applies in case of the single post. Maybe we need some protection to prevent spamming, or a report on the member.

An Approach to Dealing with Spam

I've had a back and forth with @Malkazoid on the main narrative site here ( https://www.narrative.org/post/copyright-issues-again ). While he didn't love all of my suggestions...hehe...he did like this one...so perhaps it is worth considering. Here is the entire comment for context: ( https://www.narrative.org/post/copyright-issues-again?comment=51140580898751335#51140580898751335 ) My feelings are when you initially sign up for an account your base reputation score would...

Moderator Elections

Garden Gnome Publications ·
When we do finally implement moderator elections, bar niche owners from moderating their own niches. This should prevent absent or negligent niche owners from being lax in their niche moderation duties and allowing spam to infiltrate their niches. It provides a necessary check and balance against niche owner power within their own niches and should improve the overall quality of the site so that moderators, not niche owners, can be the first line of defense against spam and low-quality content.

Spammers rating their posts as 18+ to reduce their downvotes

Christina Gleason ·
By using the 18+ rating, posts automatically have less visibility. I know it also reduces the likelihood of being upvoted, but if they plan on working together for upvoting, it will be harder to combat with enough downvotes to get it flagged as low quality/AUP violation. My amateur observations have determined that a post needs at least 5 downvotes before it will be flagged as low-quality, even if it has 4 votes and is at 0%. Here's one example that is objectively spam, no subjective way of...
Question

AUP Clarification: Post that exist solely to include an affiliate link break the rule on spamming, correct?

Christina Gleason ·
There is at least one user who has been posting 10 posts in rapid succession each day containing no meaningful content except for their affiliate link. When I was a Google Quality Rater, the "no meaningful content" part was enough to classify it as spam. The AUP definition of spam only mentions posting the same information over and over, but I doubt that you subscribe to that narrow a definition of spam. Not naming names, but in general, should we consider such posts (where they basically...

Automatically Block Spam Accounts Under 20 Rep When XX Posts Have Reached Low Quality Score

Garden Gnome Publications ·
On the Discover page, just now, I found 10 good posts among the last 50 posted. 40 out of 50 were trash spam posts! And all of them were from low-rep newly created accounts. In concert with @Sardart's suggestion in a recent @Colleen Ryer suggestion ( here ) to limit posts to 1 per day for accounts with 50 rep or below, 2 posts per day for accounts with 80 rep or below, and 3 posts per day for accounts with rep above 80, I offer the following suggestion on...

Why I Unfollowed the Movie Reviews Niche

Garden Gnome Publications ·
I have carefully followed specific individuals and niches in order to lessen the garbage that appears on my Home channel. I feel I have some control over that. I followed the Movie Reviews niche initially because I do occasionally read a review if the movie interests me. Otherwise, I'm not interested in reading every movie review that is published. I followed this particular niche just so I could have visibility on those reviews published that I might occasionally want to read. But, a recent...

Unacceptable

Garden Gnome Publications ·
8 posts, all very similar, by the same individual, no avatar, nickname "unknown", no photos, all within a 1 minute time frame, on the Discover page. How can you be proud of this? This is absolutely unacceptable, and you leave it up to your users to spend their valuable time to clean it up. It is freaking shameful.

I tried reporting every spam post I saw posted today, but voting cap foiled me.

Christina Gleason ·
I was able to report all of the spam posts that were published between about 10:30am and 3:30 pm - but only that period of time - before I reached my voting limit for the day. You say you want the community to govern itself, but the spammers have literally made it impossible for any one person to report all AUP violations over even a 12 hour period, let alone 24 hours. With so many spam posts, there's no way we'll get 5 people to vote all of them down to low quality. Most people in Discord...

Spam/low quality

Karen Huggins ·
There are two people bombarding two of my niches with low quality posts. including the front page of Narrative. Can these people be banned or suspended for a time to avoid Narrative looking utterly ridiculous to potential new members? The posts are titled "Nice Picture" for there most part but will add a few more words. Thank you in advance.

Don't worry, we're on top of it, and we have the ability behind the scenes to remove activity points when appropriate (for example, for one word, or single emoji posts). Definitely feel free to report those, and they're being reviewed in the background for deletion. I totally appreciate your leadership here!

Re: An Approach to Dealing with Spam

Malkazoid ·
Hey Banter - maybe others will be stoked by the other ideas you had: I just zeroed in on this one and suggested it would be great to be here... I'd hate for the team not to hear the others if you still believe in them... Whatever post limits end up being ideal, based on the different [rep levels], [age of account], [time since last low quality], etc... your idea of a dynamically adjusted cool down period can tip the scales in favour of the community when it comes to the spam issues. Thanks...

Maybe once per day is too restrictive (I like the 3 suggested by @Malkazoid ) but 10 is certainly too much, especially for low rep.

Perhaps in addition a small NRVE fee could be applied to override this rep-based daily posting limit. If the poster took effort and believes it’s high quality content, then that post’s reward value should far exceed the small NRVE fee that allowed it to be posted. It would discourage spam while encouraging new users to build up their rep slowly and steadily to increase the amount of allowed posts a day without a NRVE fee.

This is why I haven't been publishing new content lately, and only JUST got back to repurposing old content I've had sitting in drafts for a while. No one has the patience to keep scrolling to see the good content when there's so much spam.

Ditto on the slow down, my original stuff gets lost in the scroll - I know that some folks see my stuff because of Following either me or the niche, but gaining new eyes is nearly impossible right now. :-( Not sure what to do, but it is greatly frustrating because I like Narrative of all the platforms out there, this one thing is a real motivation killer.

There's a third option. If you've been looking you might have seen pictures of it. Some of these people are learning how to use computers and how to speak and read English. Some of them have no idea what they are clicking or what they are posting. They're doing it by rote. Lesson 1. learn to log onto to a computer. Lesson 2. learn to get a gmail account Lesson 3. register on narrative and post this email from gmail into a narrative post. Have you noticed that many of them have broken images?

Hi @David Dreezer I've only seen one user posting broken images. I pointed it out that images were missing, another member had also earlier - but the text in this person's post appeared to be legit, just reposted from another site without making note of it. Perhaps a friend wrote a post for him ... I just tried copy/pasting a few things from my gmail into the editor. The pictures show up just fine. A couple have posted in another language than English, and when I pointed it out it wasn't...

@Colleen Ryer BINGO! Although, as a side note, I have submitted a private ticket about one of our serial plagiarists, and the Team is both aware AND trying to figure out the best solution for now and the future. @Christina Gleason ah, so much easier when i don't have to read between lines - thanks! and yes, right now is still an issue. I see more speaking up in the comments on the platform - some perhaps a little too cryptic, but at least some kind of a heads up to posters who aren't aware of or aren't following the specs. Makes for fewer iffy AUP votes, at least. I wound up with a bonus of mobile data so I can do more- but can't help but wish it would just all go away

David Dreezer ·
The posts all seem to be airdrops. They are all going into the Airdrops Niche. Airdrop messages are typically very brief. On it's face it doesn't seem to be against the AUP. Everyone's interpretation of spam is different, and what looks to be low quality to some are not to others. If this looks to be low quality to you then by all means, exercise your downvote. If this isn't the kind of post you want to see then certainly downvote. When enough people downvote these posts they don't get...

Yes, and now I'm wondering if it wouldn't be best if we all cashed out completely. I was considering purchasing a publication. Now I'm having second thoughts. Every month, the value of my NRVE goes lower. And I'm pretty sure it's due to two related phenomena: 1) Spam, plagiarism, and low-quality content has taken over the platform. It's no longer an annoyance. It has become the norm. It's the main the event. 2) What little NRVE these bad actors can pull in for themselves each month is...

We keep a constant eye on new account creation and on voting rings - so please don't engage in any suspicious behaviour." They also have a minimum post length, and they check for plagiarism.
