Thinking Founders

Bryan ·
There are three definitions for the word founder | ˈfoundər |. (n) a person who makes things from metal, operates a foundry (n) a person who establishes an institution or settlement (v) to fill with water and sink, break down, to succumb Definition #2 is the one I'm talking about. Who will they be? How will their role evolve as the community takes on a life of its own? We know they will have contributed 60+ NEO in the token sale. They will have advantage of taking the first crack at Niche...

More questions about our beloved topic: Niches

Dias Flac ·
Hi everyone, just wanted to pose a few more questions and hopefully get some good discussion regarding our favorite topic and probably one of the biggest reasons why we see Narrative as a golden goose: Niches! 1) Another ICO I am following has something similar where users can purchase an intangible asset (similar to a niche) using their token for the purpose of reselling or renting it out (among other things). Think of it like reserving license plates, some buy vanity plates and pay an...

Great thoughts here, thanks for diving in! Right now, there is not a plan to allow Niche owners to rent or sell their own Niches to others...under the currently planned process, Niches will revert to the pool to be re-auctioned if someone wishes to give up their Niche (and the proceeds go to the rewards pool). When Chaucer is released, Founders are all the same...the presale Founders are exactly the same as the public sale Founders, regardless of amount contributed, so you are on an even...

Hey @Dias Flac - good questions demand reflection. Here are mine: I don't think I'd be a fan of a system that allowed "renting" out Niches. In the world of web domains , it's really annoying to try and match a great business name with a domain that's already owned by someone who isn't using it. Niche squatters (or renters) would detract value from the platform. The whole point of Niche ownership is to be an ambassador of the content being produced under that Niche, not to be an absentee slum...

How long will the Niche bidding continue for

Harj ·
I undestand that the Alpha will start on the 29th March, I think the first 48hrs or 2weeks will be founders chance then open to all who participated in ICO. How long will the process continue for a month or as there is a lot to cover would be good if it was open all the time up to the launch of the platform. Giving plenty of time for keywords to be created. Would like to know more about the moderation part also how will that be done in the alpha ? Thank you Harj

Re: How long will the Niche bidding continue for

Rosemary ·
Hi Harj! We haven't announced how long the alpha will go on, and that will depend on whether we need to make any adjustments based on real-world testing. We definitely want to allow plenty of time to get lots of Niches to be created. The alpha won't require moderation, since there won't be any content yet...remember Chaucer is just about suggesting, voting on, and purchasing Niches for now.

Thank you Ted and Rose for your replies, Im happy to make many suggestions of Niches and dont mind others getting them but you mentioned we woud get reputation enhancement could you eleborate on that ? and my other concern is if all my best niches get taken by higher bidders as I have only 3330 NRVE and out bid every time. : ( then can I still bid on a 6th even if im out bid again by others ? I would be very disapointed if I make a unique contribution into niches which no one else has...

The alpha will likely continue (and be enhanced over time) until we roll out the official service. That said, there may be periods where we take the service down temporarily for updates, etc. as is normal in pre-beta and beta services. The general idea though is to allow creation of niches continuously all of the way through the launch of the full platform.

Thanks Bryan, really like your post and your humor!! but its interesting how you have put expectations of founders but im afraid they dont have to do much after purchasing the niche and getting moderators in place oh and renewing the niche. expecting more is not in the deal. but im in the same boat as you mate will we get the niche we want... : I

I find the Founder concept too narrow and financially focused to be honest, I of course understand and appreciate the economic reasoning behind rewarding those who invest the most money and who invested and backed the idea of Narrative early; I just feel the network will grow and flourish because of the content creators and the communities they shape and may end up having little to do with the person who bought the flag and stuck it in the ground. I am really excited at the prospect of a...

First, keep in mind that Niche owners shouldn't be "absentee landlords," they can contribute content to their own Niche. Regarding the auction process, Ted gave a great answer elsewhere that I'll plagiarize here since he summed it up so well: I hope that helps to clarify the thought process behind the system. We're trying to do everything we can to be transparent, fair, and user-friendly throughout the entire network. Yes, Niches like "Golf" might command a high auction price, but there will...

How did you hear about Narrative and what made you invest?

Dias Flac ·
Given that there weren't a lot of videos on YouTube or articles about Narrative Network, out of curiosity, I want to know how you heard about Narrative and what made you believe in the project to the point of dropping your hard-earned cash for the cause? I'll start: I was looking at projects on the NEO platform (I'm a big believer that NEO will be the future so I wanted to invest in projects that shared my beliefs) and that's how I stumbled upon Narrative. I saw their article about making...

Questions about moderators... I read somewhere there will be a pool of moderators maintained by the platform. Is this pool composed of moderators suggested by owners, but also people who have stepped forwards with the desire to moderate? How will the voting on moderators take place? Will there be a niche-centric list of moderators who have been proposed by owners for that niche, and anyone from the community can cast a vote? Can moderators propose themselves for a niche they are interested...

Simply researching the words blockchain and social media I came across the Narrative site. I had been visiting a few sites dealing with social media but most were not interesting or seemed like a faraway venture so I kept my eye on Narrative. I invested because I simply believe Narrative can be the #1 blockchain site in the near future. Great question, looking forward to more!!!

Why are some forum members marked as "Founders"?

cryptochrome ·
Hi, I had another thread open here where some people responded that were marked as "Founders". Only during the course of the discussion in that thread I realized that these people are actually not official Narrative team members. Before I realized that, I was under the impression I was talking to Narrative staff. Kind of confusing. Whatever that "Founders" badge means, it's misleading. Unless I am wrong and they are actually official Narrative representatives. Could someone shed some light...

Hi (and thanks for all of the insights you've been sharing). You'll see that I have a "Narrative Staff" flag on my name, so that's what you're looking for to see us "official types." Here's an article that has a lot more detail about what the Founders are in Narrative, and how it works, but essentially they are people who have contributed 60+ NEO in the token sale. One of the perks of being a Founder is that you get access to a private forum here in this community, so you'll see them around...

These are interesting. I didn't actually find Narrative, it found me... at the right place, and the right "frame of mind." I was at a birthday party with one of my kids and was talking with another parent who mentioned Narrative. I knew just enough about crypto (from all my colleague's BTC and ETH talk at the office) to drop a Lazlo Pizza Reference joke in the right spot of the conversation and indicate I was "hip" to what was being discussed. My glazed over eyes may have told a different...

I have been holding NEO for some time now, and I loved the idea of the quality of ICOs being launched there (well, except for NEX, but that's another quarry.) I started researching what were the upcoming ICOs in NEO and stumbled upon Narrative. I went on Medium, read the article about Niches and had a bit of an argument with somebody from the team (the classic "We shouldn't bid for Niches, the creator shouldn't own it.") Still I thought it wouldn't be a waste to put about 10 NEO and see what...

I joined Steemit a few months ago and found the whole economics of it fascinating. Very envious of those whales at the top! I’ve been a NEO fanboy for about 8 months. I checked out the list of ICO’s and Narrative fell from the sky. Very well written WP, but the Founder benefits were really what made me put my precious NEO on the table. Looking forward to see how it all plays out...makes life seem a little less ordinary

I literally just went to ICOalert and typed in "social platform" - there were more than 10 or so but Narrative just seemed like the most solid option. I am also looking at Sapien. I blog from time to time so I want all of my content to be decentralized and AWAY from those long arms at Facebook and similar. Can't wait to start posting in niches and possibly own one myself as well!
