Will Newbies lose out going beyond 1 million users.

Harj ·
One of the problems on Steemit now is for new users it's real tough challenge to get started and gain a following/earn some upvotes the best thing for them is the bots as they are the main way of how to get there posts listed and get some upvote but downside is they could lose money too. How will Narrative handle the users who come later ?

In addition to it takes hard work to build your brand , I would add that the community, at large, benefits from all content providers publishing successful content in all shapes and sizes. So, as new people come in to the community (provided the content they are producing is genuine and relevant; not some plagiarized copying and pasting of other people's ideas) they should be well-received. Niche owners, Moderators, and/or Content Providers could form "W elcoming Committees " within their...

I don't remember reading anywhere that members will have to buy upvotes. Or even "have" them at all, much less as a (limited) commodity. My assumption is that if someone has an account, and they see content they like (much like this forum), then they can "+" that content in some way; up-voting, liking, cheering, clapping, boosting, juicing, nodding, whatever. Is there something you're reading somewhere (whitepaper, blog, etc.) that is leading you to believe "upvotes" will be a form of social...

ahhh thanks guys for you responses yes hardwork is the key to success but its somthing which will be hours and will get harder, and when I said pay Bryan, I meant buying upvotes/likes from those that want to sell ie bots like minnowbooster (Steemit) , its a great way for a newbie to get some exposure and get something however small.

Great question! I think it can be a challenge for anyone to build an audience, regardless of the platform. To gain an audience, you need to create quality content and work hard at it. There are no shortcuts. That said, one of our advisors, Christopher Penn, was brought on board to help us create tools for users to more easily promote their content and extend their reach.

Hi Ted thanks is there a way if someone has upvotes which they are not using could get sell them ? and those that need upvotes buy them ? bots just help with the exchange.

Bots will have little to no impact on Narrative. Reputation determines impact and bots would have very low reputation.

Re: Will Newbies lose out going beyond 1 million users.

Bryan ·
Well, except all those activities get "pooled" and then distributed based on reputation score... so, there isn't such a limited 1:1 correlation between a "like" and a "post". This forum, where you can like your own stuff, is not a good model for what we should expect from Narrative. I would imagine that "liking" your own content will be weighted as a big, fat zero. And, two whales circling the wagons to like their own stuff is probably not going to get them very far either, if other people...

Ah, okay, now I understand. I don't think that fits within the spirit of Narrative's vision. So, I wouldn't imagine that "reputations" could be put up for sale. That doesn't mean people won't try and game that system. But, it won't be built to enable that sort of behavior. If you're super influential, and I want you to support my content, there's nothing to stop us from back-channeling some deal where you upvote all my content. But, I would think that would be frowned upon, and probably easy...

thank you Bryan, when whales have this voting power built up it is theirs I guess to do with as they wish or not ?? so they could vote whoever they choose to plus im guessing lower level users will not effect reputaion of higher level users.

Im guessing that if your a whale your like would be worth alot.... lets say example $50, you could either like yourself earning $50 or like another whale post who would like your post for the same amount or just sell it for lets say $30

Interesting conversation I believe Harj is trying to illustrate the problem of reputation abuse and weaker votes of new users to fight established reputable actors rewarding and trading votes, as reputable actors can maliciously silence the weaker users or ignore them. Steemit uses the downvote mechanism however it has a minimum impact unless a reputed user also downvotes the content which establishes the problem known as a Whale War. https://steemit.com/steemit/...

Re: How much token will we(Narrative) mint every day to give to users to like/upvote other content.

Ted ·
Just to clarify one thing... Narrative's network rewards are not about paying people to like/upvote content. That sounds like Steemit. Narrative's reward system is much broader and designed to reflect all types of contributions, but reputation as well. The allocation of Network Rewards is detailed in the white paper on page 17: https://assets.narrative.netwo...arrative-network.pdf The breakdown is like so: Content Creators: 60% Narrative Organization: 15% Niche Owners: 10% Activity Rewards:...

How much token will we(Narrative) mint every day to give to users to like/upvote other content.

Hi guys Would be great to know the rate of inflation that will affect our wallets with the production of new minted tokens which are distributed each day for users to upvote/like content. Thank you Harj

I posted this elsewhere but probably bears briefly repeating here since it is so relevant to the thread topic: I hope we find a way of not rewarding upvoting/liking, so as to avoid useless cheerleading for profit. By associating a small cost in NRVE to each upvote, we can remove any incentive to spam the platform with 'likes', whilst simultaneously including an kind of micro-tipping to the act of upvoting other content. After all, saying I like something another user has worked to provide to...

One of the thoughts that came to me reading your post, Freedom, is: what can Narrative do to ensure that one person only has one Narrative account? It seems to me that some of the dapps in development on NEO could address this, securing identity on the network so that opening more than one account becomes really difficult and risky to attempt? The other thought that came while reading you: it should be possible to incentivise for reputable members to interact with content from new users by...

I think it would be much more beneficial for the whale to spend his votes in a constructive way than to sell. For instance if you are a niche owner..spend your votes on your content providers posting on your niche, in essence keeping it in the family. Or you could create alliances with other people in the same reputation range. I don't like the bot system on steemit. I feel it has corrupted the platform. I have used it, because i see no rewards otherwise, and I feel I make pretty attractive...

@Malkazoid has some good insights to @Harj questions. It's true that algorithm will be tricky. Having an advisor like Christopher Penn (if you don't follow him - do it) to help us build and test these is important. #1 from the earliest Narrative discussion is that you can't buy reputation. The word "Whale" then probably muddies the point. There will be people with big reputation but we'll have to call them something else. Also, selling reputation will be around as long as there are humans in...

Language is important, and I don't particularly like 'Discovery Bonus' either. My effort was not so much to find the right name, but to outline a dynamic. Mentoring is fantastic. I think it can easily coexist with a system like the one I was attempting to describing. It does not serve the same purpose. Mentoring is a real commitment - the system should also incentivise people to casually explore content beyond their sphere of influence. When mentoring happens, it is a beautiful thing, but I...

I will admit....I start to glaze over a tiny bit when it comes to this stuff. phew! However, I do agree that there needs to be incentive for the established to engage with the new members of the community. In fact I mentioned on a post many weeks ago that an incentivized mentoring program should be part of the official system. Unlike @Malkazoid I could not attempt to say how that could work. What I will add is my thoughts on language, which may not seem as important at this stage, but hear...
