What is Reputation and how does it work?

Reputation is the key to ensuring a quality experience on Narrative. By correlating reputation with actions, the influence anyone has in the network is always based upon the established reputation that each has earned.

Every member earns reputation by the actions they do on the community. Like life, reputation is earned in Narrative.  Reputation can be found in the Member profile.  It is comprised of three attributes:

  • Conduct (10%)
  • Quality (60%)
  • Certification (30%)

Conduct  is either Neutral (10 points) or Negative (0 points). This is basically a trip wire for bad actors and bots. For example, if someone is constantly bidding on Niches and then not paying from them - then they should be penalized for bad behavior.  Conduct Negative members are given a time out from doing some activities in Narrative. Time out is dependent on type of misconduct.  Don't worry, if you made a mistake, you will be able to get out of this penalty box.  The decay formula we use to determine how long you are penalized can be found in our Spec.  If you are Conduct Negative, you will be sent an email why so this doesn't happen again. You can erase your negative status instantly by becoming Certified (if you are not already Certified).

Quality is based on the actions you do in the platform. Are you adding content? Are your niche suggestions getting purchased?  Are people up voting your content?  Are you voting in elections? Basically, your reputation is boosted by being a good active citizen.

Certification proves you are a real, unique human being, which is a key component to curtailing bots.  Certified members also receive more perks - they can suggest more Niches, become Moderators, and most importantly, if they are certified and have a high reputation, their votes count more!
