Reputation Blow Due to Narrative's Change of Policy

Product: Narrative

Dear Team,

Following my post "Why We Need Niche Edit Requests to Niches in Auctions", I would like to request that   the reputation lost due to the rejection of the  "The  Narrative Members Yellow Book"  be restored to my account, since there is no way for the community to foresee changes in the AUP and company policy with less than a month notice.

Also it would be nice if  "The  Narrative Members Yellow Book" status would be changed to Approved or at least deleted so that it could be submitted again, because as you can read in the comment section of the approval, the only reason it was rejected  was due to the rules in force previous  to the AUP and policy updates. Same with   "The  Narrative Members' Yellow Pages", but just deleted since the  current description makes it a useless niche.

Thanks!

@Nuno Moreiras.  Sorry your original Niche and subsequent one got caught up in the changes. The chances that were to happen were very very very low.

So, the good news is that the original "The  Narrative Members Yellow Book" Niche name will be available again soon. When a Niche is rejected, the Name just can't be used for 30 days.  It should be available this week again. We can't just change the status to Approved without a vote by the community.  So, you can try again with that Niche Name if you want.

Alternately, you can file an appeal "edit" on  the one that has been approved so it doesn't refer to using only canonical links anymore.  (I say that because they may want to include a link).   If you put in the Niche edit,  I will make sure to link to your post on Narrative about this issue for the other Tribunal members to see for decision-making.

You have a couple of options here.  I am confident we can get to a solution.

With respect to reputation, we can't just go in the system and change it.  Reputation goes up and down a few points - that is normal and you shouldn't have received a significant hit just for a rejected niche at this point. You are High Rep still.

Hello @MOLLY O,

Thank you for you quick reply. My only interest here is to have the reputation back as the rejection kicked me back from 93 to 92, but I expected this outcome, as this is not the first time that you guys say you cannot control your platform (no offense, really!)

I'm not sure how much you follow my rants in the past few days, but I am no longer investing in Narrative, because I believe there is a high chance that in the long-run the platform is doomed to failure. I hope I am wrong, since I had really high expectations for this project.

I have already discussed this with David, but I'll lay here the gist of it, if you would like to hear my opinion.

There is a kind of content creator that is very much like the locust plagues of old tales. They see a new platform, they latch on to it and consume it until there is nothing left and then they fly away and go on for the next one. Obviously this is a minimal effort modus operandi, so they use minimal effort posts. They do not care about the platform. They do not have the ability to foresee that they are the very reason why the their efforts become meaningless in the long-run, because they are the ones who bring the platforms down.

We, the "toxic" group, have been doing our best to curb this type of behavior, but they are always protected by the Team for some reason.

Whenever someone mentions " Voting Circles" the answers is always the same:

"we will always look to minimize the impact of bad actors in the voting process", which means that you either can't do nothing or will do nothing. Yet, this is the very reason why posts that shouldn't be featured in the side bar of the main page constantly show up there. Flowers, cats and bullcrap (pardon, my French!) It's an insult to people who actually put serious work in the platform.

There was a ticket with David a few days ago that presents concrete evidence. I understand you won't do anything in other platforms, but feel free to reach me on my personal e-mail if you are really looking to tackle this.

I will have one final effort to curb what I call involuntary voting circles (a quick comment to show that you have upvoted and round and round we go with flower and cat photos posts) in the near future by trying to appeal for the rejection of the Color Challenge niche. I also have high hopes for @j.bandel's suggestion, so lets see. But for now I am truly disheartened by this experience, so all I'm left with is to wish you all the best and hoping that you are successful, even if I'm not here or if Narrative does no longer fits the expectations I had for it.

Sorry is this sounds rushed, I didn't have much time.

@Nuno Moreiras.  I am very confident that things will come around when a few things are finished and the right tools are in place.  Why don't you take some time off and come check back in a couple of months.

You are suggesting a niche owner that's running contests, which generate original mostly quality content(which narrative is lacking) to take a few months off?

Hmmm.....

Not even close. He said he was leaving and I was encouraging him to come back.
