You can only appeal one niche per 24 hour period to the Tribunal - problematic

Service: Narrative

I'm currently going through every. single. page. of niches up for auction to suggest niches for people to buy that I have content already written for, and I'm noticing a lot of redundant niches got approved in the early days. I appealed one instance, but I could appeal at least 4 more right now. I'm not going to be going to back through all of these pages again tomorrow or any time soon, so I'm not going to remember all of these that should be appealed. (Off the top of my head, Activism, Activist, and Advocacy are all up for auction, and whichever one gets purchased first makes the others redundant based on their descriptions. And Poem is redundant when the Poetry niche already exists and has content submitted to it.)

I get that Narrative doesn't want people to abuse the appeal system, but those of us who are actively trying to help are unable to do so efficiently or effectively with this 24-hour limit in place.

Hi Christina,

You are correct, there is a one per 24 hour limit in place for appeals right now. Sure one reason is to stop one person from spamming the tribunal with appeals. But another reason is to help the well intentioned person through the process. By submitting one appeal, they can watch how the Tribunal votes and understand the reasoning. There will certainly be cases in the future when we open up to the public that we will have people appealing for the wrong reasons.

On another note, if you become high reputation (85+), appeals are unlimited.   Nobody has that in the system yet (impossible today) but they will in the future.

Until High Rep can be achieved, if you list the potential Niche duplicates in a conversation thread here, other community members might help push some Niches through the appeals ....  Assuming they agree .

You saw through part of my reason for posting about this issue.

@Christina Gleason As for the other niches you mentioned: the Activists niche, I see that it was already appealed and found to be non-redundant in relation to the one for Activism. However, does the term Advocacy have any different meaning to distinguish it from Activism? I’m unfamiliar with the term.

A lot of it depends on usage, I guess. An advocate might be advocating for the needs of an individual, like a dependent child with special needs whose school isn't keeping up with its legal requirements to help children with special needs. But an activist is more likely to be active on a political level, like pushing for higher requirements for helping all children with special needs and stricter penalties for crimes against people with special needs, for instance.

I can see why not being able to appeal one niche per 24 hour period might be frustrating, though. If I bought two or three niches whose descriptions could be cleaned up a bit, I'd want to appeal them as soon as possible to reduce the embarrassment of having that on my niches list.

@Heidi Hecht, submitting Niche name/description edits as the owner doesn't have the same one-request-per-24-hour limitation as appealing the status of a niche does, so you don't have anything to worry about there
