M's featured niches

Hey,

So just for laughs, I'm going to start featuring some niches I think hold a lot of potential to become very interesting places on Narrative.  Feel free to join in with any exciting niches you may have noticed.

I want to start with:

https://alpha.narrative.org/ni...ficult-conversations

This comes across to me as a sort of community dialogue hub where topics and sections of society that generally do not get aired/combined can deliberately enter a process of learning about each other, and the issues that typically divide them.  The integrity of the fabric of society demands this work of us, and at no other time has it been more clear that we need this, in the US, but also in many other countries around the world.

I think this is a fantastic fit for Narrative.

Part of my work involves this sort of dialogue, and I have a couple of friends who focus on this as well, who I look forward to introducing to Narrative and to this niche.

I'll be a contributor.

@Malkazoid. That should be an interesting niche. I think a couple good thoughtful content contributors will certainly drive folks there.

I like "M's Featured Niches" topic — there so many interesting niches out there — and more coming. It's interesting for us to look at how they are trending each time we open a round with new members.

Interesting. I'll probably love that niche if it attracts intelligent discussion that can be politically neutral while trying to solve a problem or situation.

The current level of friction in society, one might assume, is a symptom that our current structure of democracy is extremely inefficient. People treat 'democracy' like it's some type of sacred cow, when in fact, it's a centuries-old technology that is hobbling along at wagon-speed on the digital highway.

I'll definitely stop in for a visit, as I'm sure many people will.

So here's another interesting niche being voted on, that I think holds great promise for some quality content on an important topic.

Surveillance State

Legal protections of privacy are arguably not keeping pace with rapid technological enablement of breaching privacy.  The nightmares of dystopian authors are now knocking on our door - look at China's surveillance state.

I'm chuckling to myself a bit that I just finished reading about Alexa's new "whisper mode" setting and the way it plans to detect whether you're sick, or if an alarm is going off in your house, etc....

Here's one with a lot of potential:

Narrative Community Voting

Michael, who started it, has also written about it here.

I see huge potential here.  The one caveat is that I think the @Narrative Network Team should create the functionality to vote on community issues, and I'm pretty certain this is squarely on their development slate, as it is a central aspect to life with Narrative.

So I don't think the actual voting needs to take place on a niche, and it probably shouldn't.

What I do see the niche as very useful for is for hosting discussions surrounding Narrative Community Voting.  If this niche's description is repurposed in this direction, I think the niche will live happily ever after, and I can only hope that civic engagement will be intense so as to make this a thriving niche.

So, I finally have a few moments to page through all the niches awaiting moderator nominations in the Moderator Center... and I'm feeling a certain amount of 'niche joy', so I thought I'd pop in and share it with you folks.

Erotica By and For Disabled People

Mushrooms

Colonization of Mars

Early Empty Nest

Today I Learned

Breaking Bad (directly followed in the Mod Center list by...)

Positive Psychology

Purses

Platform Nine and Three Quarters

Veterans

Ancient Prehistory

I'm not personally interested in all of these niches but their presence gives me a good feeling about Narrative - a sense that niches are going to give rise to some fantastic online spaces.

My best wishes to the mods and owners of these niches, and of all the other hundreds of niches already approved and ready to rock the Beta.
