Niche Approval Filtering and Sorting

Hi,

Can we get filtering and/or sorting implemented sooner rather than later on the alpha?

I'd like to be able to skip directly to the proposed niches I haven't voted on yet.

I'd also like to be able to skip directly to the close votes to read the comments.

Anybody else feel this way?

Yes, this feels like it is needed NOW. That being said, I have left some comments on niches looking for guidance about certain issues with the niche descriptions. I've abstained from voting so far, but maybe people would be more likely to reply if I were to vote to reject and ask others to change my mind. (I have done this a few times, and I have changed my vote to approve on some of them.)

I agree - this would be really considerate of the team to implement.  It feels like low-hanging fruit: I can't imagine it is a huge science project to implement, and it could reduce the amount of time it takes people to do a voting session by half.

I often wonder whether to comment and wait for an answer, or downvote and comment inviting folks to change my mind.

Mostly, I will suspend judgement if it is a field I suspect I don't have a good enough grasp of to tell whether the problem is the name/description, or whether it is me.

There really is nothing that is low hanging fruit, and anything that is not on the timeline just makes beta that much further away.  We're focused really hard on that process of getting us to beta and the timeline that Brian posted here.

That's not to say it is a bad idea, it's a good idea, but anything that pulls us off the timeline is really likely to be put after the current TODOs to reach our goal, not before.

We already have a search update suggestion in the hopper here. Please consider adding to the existing one if it makes sense to do so, or adding a new Suggestion into the system is fine too.  It makes it easier for us to find them, track them, and if necessary respond to them, if they are posted there.

Then we shall grit our teeth and keep clicking each and every of the 7 or so pages of niches searching for ones we haven't voted on!  Don't let anyone ever say we didn't suffer for the cause!  My first world problems...

Hehe, I suggested this feature a while ago in a random thread.. Well anyway, implementing this is guaranteed to increase voting efforts from returning members, since they'll be able to quickly find whatever niches they have yet to vote on.

Hi @Dave Dreezer and @Narrative, I think I would push back on the 'nothing is low hanging fruit' comment.  Having a default sort on the approval view that shows Niches that the logged in user hasn't voted on yet should be a very simple server side fix and not involve the UI at all.  This would function as a simple stop gap until a more advanced sorting filtering UI can be implemented.  I think everyone trying to do their part to vote would massively appreciate this, as it is, the current experience is so off putting I can understand why most people would / are forgoing voting.

Yeah. There's plenty of room by the "suggest niche" button, which doesn't appear to be a half or third of a voting card anyway, and is thus probably just floating off to the right in a 50% div taking up the remainder of the ThumbsUp/Approvals/View Guidelines header image space on large screens. I bet it's just always floating around as the extra piece on all the defined screen dimensions. So for now I'd just stick a friend extra piece on it for filtering. 20 minutes now. 20 minutes later to remove it if it's not in the final beta design. Low hanging fruit.
